We are coming to Melfort on Wednesday, April 29th and have room to see more horses!

Now is the perfect time for a spring tune up as you start legging up your horses 🐎🐎

Something I really admire in modern farriery is the rise in global standards for hoof care, along with the rapid advancement of diagnostic tools. Radiographs are now widely accessible, and images can be viewed within seconds, complete with precise measurements. Innovations in shoes, pads, and therapeutic packages have been developed through methodical, peer-reviewed processes, significantly improving the quality of life for many horses.

What stands out with these innovations is they don’t present themselves as cure-alls. Instead, they recognize that each horse is an individual, often requiring a tailored approach for every case. They encourage hoof care providers to think critically and apply their knowledge responsibly, rather than relying on gimmicks.

It’s encouraging to see how much the field has progressed—though it’s also disappointing that not everyone recognizes or values these advancements. Some would rather rely on gimmicks that wind up result in lame horses.

That's why I love doing research and informing my clients of the pros and cons of different strategies and shoes for their horse. I'm always open to new ideas and experimenting, but I will not support things I know to be detrimental to your horse.

It's a wild blizzard out there - hopefully the last of this spring!

On our way back from the Mega Clinic Feb 26-28, we stopped at the Gopher Hole Museum in Torrington, AB, with a small group of other farriers. Never did I think it would be actual gophers on display, lmfao. This museum is definitely a must-see with a really cool history and story behind it ❤️

February 26-28 I attended the 2026 Mega Clinic at Blackfalds, AB, as a newbie apprentice and a new WCFA member. As a long-time horse owner and past professional trainer, equine feet and farriery and forging have always interested me keenly. As the old adage goes, "no foot no horse!", and so my interest grew exponentially, as I gained knowledge through the years and recognized just how important hoof health was, why, and how we can effect positive change in the horse. Years ago, I was blessed to have found Valkyrie Farrier Services and develop a close relationship with Krissy that has included necropsies, experimentations in rehabing and maintaining feet and horses with different pathologies, and clinics. When she mentioned this clinic earlier this year, I was like: I have to go.

I am so glad I did! We were hosted by Horse In Hand Ranch, and the weekend included AFTC exams, lectures, dissections, and demos. I learned SO much, from some of the top professionals in the industry:

Chance Hanson covered tool building and tool maintenance

Russ Floyd dissected hind limbs and additionally did a lecture on Negative Plantar Angles

Dr. Anya Floyd educated us in respect to radiographs

Ian Gajczak - joining us from the UK - challenged our perceptions on everyday shoeing

It was an incredible opportunity, to learn from these world class leaders!

Huge thank you's to:
Riley Swanby and Kane Larsen for making this event happen, and the following sponsors:
Diamond Six Farrier Services Ltd.
The "Official" Shoe Box Farrier Supply Hoof & Nail Farrier Supplies Ltd
Energy Equine Veterinary Services
Well-Shod.com
Mustad Hoofcare
Combined Insurance

I am really excited to continue to explore and pursue this avenue and look forward to more such learning opportunities!
