PPE - Personal Protective Equipment

Personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses.

Failure to wear PPE, use PPE properly or use compatible PPE, results in accidents and fatalities that cost organizations and the community millions per year.

C² Safety will assist in recognizing the need for PPE and provide information about the proper selection and usage in your workplace.

Spring Start Up - Construction.

Spring is just around the corner!

Spring is a great time to check that your Health and Safety Policies & Procedures are in place, your vehicles and equipment are working properly, site and/or workplace orientations are complete, your workers are trained and ready, and the jobsites are safe.

Your Health & Safety Policy, Procedures, and Programs must be reviewed at least once a year as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act, s. 25 (2).

Check to see if any regulations specifically applicable to the type of work you do have changed. If you revised your policy, procedures and/or program, don’t forget to inform your workers about any changes.

Use the following checklist to make sure you have covered some of the basics:

• A Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) or health and safety representative has been appointed.

• Designated first aiders have been chosen.

• Worker training has been scheduled to take place before the work begins.

• Workers and subcontractors have been instructed on site-specific jobsite hazards and emergency procedures.

• Workers have the personal protective equipment (PPE) required by the company and the regulations.

• Start-up and maintenance procedures follow safe work practices.

In 2023 the MLITSD conducted over 18,000 inspections of construction projects, stopping unsafe work over 4,200 times.

A jury has issued eight recommendations following an inquest into seven workplace deaths in Ontario that involved working at heights, and two of the organizations whom the recommendations are aimed at issued responses in statements to Canadian Occupational Safety.

C² Safety - Summer Safety Tips

Anyone can be at risk for a heat-related illness. Follow these summer safety tips, like taking extra breaks and drinking lots of water.

1. Stay Hydrated - Be sure to drink lots of liquids throughout the day.

2. Eye Safety - Wear sunglasses year-round whenever you are out in the sun.

3. Water Safety - Always have adult supervision for children near water.

4. Protect Your Skin - Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen! Apply liberally and often.

5. Sport Safety - Heat exhaustion & dehydration happen more often in the summer months. Hydrate, cool down and stretch afterwards.
