We are thrilled to participate in another edition of the In-Mold Decorating Association (IMDA) Plastic Product Decorating Summit that is happening in Houston Texas from September 1st to 3rd.

This summit is also the stage where the 2026 IMDA Awards Competition happens, which recognizes outstanding IML, IMD and IME submissions that were produced in 2025 or 2026. Entries received from around the world showcase the best in in-mold design and technical achievement, and we are proud to participate with our 6oz. TRIM Cup shown below.

StackTeck’s expertise in part design, mold and hot runner flow analysis is essential to a successful ultra-thin packaging project.

Ultra-fast Injection is just one of several light weighting approaches offered which is a machine-driven process that requires both specialty resins and a robust mold design to permit injection times as fast as approximately 0.1 seconds.

This injection molding technology requires extensive mold flow analysis. StackTeck has a strong engineering team that are experts in doing that, using a software that enables an accurate flow analysis for the part.

The use of multi-gating makes it much easier to fill and pack out the part in an injection mold.

With multiple gates, we are effectively reducing the flow length by positioning the gates in strategic locations to have plastic reach the end of fill in a shorter path. By placing more gates on a part, opportunity presents itself to reduce the wall thickness more than it would be possible with a single gate, while reducing the part weight by as much as 15%.

Most often when using multiple gates on large parts, however in some cases this technology is also used in smaller parts, in this case on the cup shown below 👇 , the part can be made thinner due to the second gate and at the same time enables a consistent flow pattern in a multi-compartment cup like this, since the 2 compartments are filling at the same time.

Quick Product Change is based on 2 major components; QPC

mold frame and QPC core and cavity module sets. The QPC mold frame incorporates the hot runner power, water and air services, part ejection actuation and mold alignment features.

The QPC core and cavity module sets are specific to a given product and are changed out in sets to enable rapid product change over.

👇 This 24 cavity (3X8) QPC Stack mold produces 150mm round lids at 5.5 second cycles, or 16,000 parts per hour. If demand is greater, this 3 level mold can be extended to a 4 level mold minimizing initial capital and part costs to customers.

StackTeck also incorporates our QPC approach in our in mold label systems to enable rapid product and label changes in 45 minutes.
