🇨🇦 1️⃣ Yukon’s Nomination Allocation for 2026

The Yukon has been allocated 282 nomination slots for 2026 — these are spots it can use to nominate foreign workers for permanent residency through the YNP.

🎯 2️⃣ What Priorities Yukon Is Focusing On

The territory will prioritize applicants who either fill labour market needs or have established connections to Yukon, specifically:

✔ Regulated health care professionals (e.g., nurses, doctors)
✔ Foreign workers who:

Have lived and worked in Yukon for at least one year

Graduated from Yukon University

Are French-speaking (Francophone)

Already received a Temporary Measure Letter of Support in 2024 or 2025

People who received a Temporary Measure Letter of Support in 2024/2025 do not need to submit a new Expression of Interest (EOI) – Yukon will contact them directly with next steps.

📅 3️⃣ Intake Periods for Employers (Who Apply on Behalf of Workers)

The YNP is employer-driven, so employers submit EOIs for the foreign worker they want to nominate. The 2026 intake periods are:

🗓 Intake #1: January 19–30, 2026
🗓 Intake #2: July 6–17, 2026

Submissions that match Yukon’s priorities will receive points, and the highest scoring employers will get invited to submit full applications.

📉 4️⃣ How 2026 Compares to Previous Years

Yukon’s allocation of 282 spots is higher than its original 2025 allocation (215) after extra spots were added, but still lower than the 430 spots it had in 2024.

It’s not yet clear whether Yukon will request additional nominations beyond 282 for 2026.

anada International Student & PGWP: 2025 Year-in-Review – Key Positives ✨

As we step into 2026, it’s worth reflecting on some positive developments from 2025 that benefited international students and PGWP holders in Canada:

✅ Stronger support for graduate students
Policies introduced in 2025 paved the way for Master’s and PhD programs to be exempt from the study permit cap starting 2026, improving access to higher education in Canada.

✅ Faster study permit processing for PhD applicants
Eligible doctoral candidates benefited from accelerated processing (as fast as two weeks), including improved pathways for accompanying family members.

✅ PGWP pathways remained open for many students
Despite tighter rules, many programs continued to remain PGWP-eligible into early 2026, allowing students time to complete studies and plan their careers.

✅ Improved on-ground student experience
Reduced overall intake helped ease housing pressure and competition for essential services, benefiting students already living in Canada.

✅ Clearer guidance from IRCC
In 2025, IRCC provided better clarity on common PGWP application mistakes, helping graduates submit stronger and more accurate applications.

📌 Looking ahead, these changes show Canada’s continued focus on quality education, skilled graduates, and long-term student success.

Today's CIC News Update for International Students:

"Two Situations Where International Students in Canada Can Work Unlimited Hours"

International students in Canada usually have a limit of 24 hours per week of off-campus work while classes are in session. However, there are two scenarios that allow for unlimited work hours:

On-campus work — you can work any number of hours at your school, student organizations, or even your own campus-based business.

Freelancing for foreign clients — remote work done for clients outside Canada doesn’t count toward the 24-hour cap.

Bonus: During scheduled academic breaks (at least 7 consecutive days, up to 150 days per year), students may also work unlimited hours off-campus.

Make sure you follow the proper rules—know the difference between on-campus, off-campus, and remote work so you stay compliant and get the most out of your study-work balance!
