We put a lot of thought into our company name and although we wanted to be identified nationally and regionally, we recognize that many clients have strong roots in the community. We chose “Bran” from Brandon and “stone” from the keystone province, a recognized moniker for Manitoba. The addition of “Financial Strategies” describes the work that we are passionate about. Our logo is an abstract shap

e of our province integrating the four pillars of financial security planning (liquidity, disability, retirement, financial security at death). The “dot” in the bottom left hand corner represents southwestern Manitoba, and we chose harvest colours for our logo as it best represents our community. Joining Kevin in the Branstone Financial Strategies Inc. Brandon office are Kristie Miller, Financial Security Advisor and Amber Storey, our Administrative Assistant. We also have an associate advisor, Debbie Lang, whose practice and office resides in northwestern Ontario. Debbie’s daughter, Emma Lang, Financial Security Advisor, joined the Branstone team in January 2019 and works closely with Debbie’s clients while building her own client base. We feel that it is our responsibility as business owners to help shape the communities in which we live. Every little bit makes a difference so we are pleased to support the United Way, The Women’s Resource Centre, the YMCA Strong Kids program, the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, the Brandon Wheat Kings, the Brandon Men’s Curling Bonspiel, the Relay for Life, and the Pinkest Owl Charity golf tournament amongst other local community events in Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. Our team approach lends itself to education-focused financial advice so that clients can make informed decisions. Beyond our Branstone Financial Strategies Inc. team in Brandon and Ontario, through Freedom 55 Financial, we have access to specialists in every area of financial planning to help clients put comprehensive financial plans in place.

So your landlord has checked your references, received your damage deposit, and given a move-in date - you can finally breathe a sigh of relief as you move into your new place! After weeks of setting up new accounts, finding furniture, packing and unpacking, there is one last question that remains… do you want to purchase tenant’s insurance?

Surprisingly, over half of Canadians renting property do not have insurance. That is in stark contrast to 97% of homeowners who insure their home, according to a Statistics Canada report. So why do tenant’s not cover their bases?

Some may think that their landlord’s insurance will cover their property as well. Others simply do not see the point in the extra cost, “believing the likelihood that something bad will happen is slim”. Many are first time renters who are not even aware of how invaluable insurance is. These explanations do not suffice - tenant’s insurance is an affordable and crucial coverage that may maintain your livelihood amidst a disaster.

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬
Landlords may have home insurance on a property in case of a disaster, however this does not extend to their tenant’s belongings.

Possessing insurance will also cover any belongings that were lost due to theft. There are countless stories of individuals that regret refusing to make a $20-$30 monthly payment after losing in excess of several thousand dollars of possessions due to a break-in.

𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐬
So the worst case scenario happens and your apartment is destroyed. Where are you going to stay and how much is this going to cost? Tenant insurance is again useful as it “helps cover expenses like moving costs, a hotel room and more if you can’t live in your rental”.

Personal liability can be the most costly obstacle a renter may have to face without tenant’s insurance. If a visitor suffers severe bodily damage in your home without coverage, there is a high possibility that you will endure the hefty costs of legal fees in court. Insurance will often cover up to $100,000 of liability claims and lawsuits.
