The Brandon Urban Aboriginal Peoples’ Council (BUAPC) and the organizing committee* for Truth and Reconciliation Week humbly and proudly present the calendar for activities and events happening in our community September 27 to October 1, 2021.

We will release a calendar with more details about each individual activity and event in the near future.

Mayor Rick Chrest will sign the proclamation for Truth and Reconciliation Week the morning of September 21 at 10:30 a.m., with key participants and guests in attendance. Following the signing and photos, the Brandon Friendship Centre will host a feast with soup and bannock at Princess Park. All are invited to attend and partake in the meal. (Until supplies last!)

In the early morning hours of Monday, September 27, Knowledge Keeper Frank Tacan will mark the beginning of Truth and Reconciliation Week with a sunrise ceremony, offering gratitude and praying for blessings for the land and the events to come there. Tim Bone will light the ceremonial fire and Firekeepers will tend to the fire throughout the week, to October 1.

Shortly after, at 9 a.m., Mayor Chrest will officiate over the raising of an orange flag on the guest pole at city hall. The flag will fly to Monday, October 4, when the annual Sisters in Spirit vigil and walk will take place. However, on September 30 – Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation -- all flags will be lowered to half-mast as a symbol of mourning for the thousands of children whose lives were stolen by Canada’s residential school system, their families, and to honour survivors.

BUAPC and the organizing committee for Truth and Reconciliation Week would like to express gratitude to all the sponsors who have committed to ensuring that the week is a meaningful experience for all, Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in and around Brandon: City of Brandon, Westoba Credit Union, Compass Credit Union, Sunrise Credit Union, and Natural Elements Wellness Centre.

We also gratefully acknowledge the Riverbank Discovery Centre (Brandon Riverbank Inc.) for hosting Truth and Reconciliation Week at its site on the Assiniboine River.

* The organizing committee, along with BUAPC, is made up of the Brandon Friendship Centre, Assiniboine Community College, Brandon University and the Manitoba Métis Federation Southwestern Region.

I feel sad when I hear women say they hate or feel stuck in their current job, because I know it is possible to have your dream job.

I've done it and that is what I help my clients do. So if you are having trouble with feeling stuck in your current job, this strategy may help you. Simply write down a short story of when you did your best work. It can be from a work experience, school experience or even a sport or hobby experience. Once you write it down, notice how you feel. Are your proud, motivated, satisfied you did a great job? When you take notice of how you feel about your best work, you are acknowledging your best skills and talents. This is one proven strategy I teach in Manifest Your Dream Job Group Program. This is why I am excited it will be launching next month....stay tuned!

It will be 4, 90 minute zoom sessions with one 90 minute individual coaching session included in the 4 week program. I will be sending you the features and benefits tomorrow. If you are thinking your ideas and dreams are not important. I am here to tell you your dreams starts with a thought or a seed. Plant the thought, and then see it grow.
