Good evening. Not much new for repairs in the last few weeks. A lot of machines are in service. I did have 1 machine that has been a somewhat night mare. A baby lock jazz 2. Issue with the tension assembly which causes loose stitching as you may all know. It can also cause skipped stitches. So what is the issue, is it the tension causing the issue or is it the skipped stitches causing the loose tension? In this case it was both. So where to begin, start by using 2 different color threads. This way you can see it is the upper tension or lower tension causing the loose threads. Set the upper tension to 3 or 4 on the dial and then make sure the lower tension in the bobbin case is set correctly. The bobbin case should drop while holding the tail of the thread about 3 to 4 inches. Once this is set move onto the timing of the machine. The issue with the one I was working on the timing appeared to be correct. Perfect straight stitches and the tension was perfect after the adjustments. Move it to zig zag and the thread would be loose and skipped stitches. I had to rest the timing by making small adjustments over many attempts to dial it in. With this machine and it may not be others of the same model the wider the stitch length the looser the tension had to be to get the right stitch. Not something that usually happens once the tension is correct. Many hours later the machine is now working well and will back with the owner for new projects. Sometimes the machines just do not follow the set up rules that most machines would. Take care and have a great rest of the summer.
