“At the Avon Theatre in Stratford this season, we’re using seven of the new DPA 4097 CORE Micro Shotgun Mics across the lip of the stage for all four productions, and the results have been outstanding.
In previous seasons, our front-of-stage mics needed heavy EQ just to make them less noticeable. Even then, fan noise, colouration, and phasing between mics were always challenges.
The goal here has always been simple: every word heard clearly, without the audience feeling like the show is amplified. We call it “mixing in the bubble.”
This year, the DPA 4097s have come incredibly close to that ideal. They’re natural, transparent, and sonically almost invisible. If you didn’t know they were there, you’d think the stage itself was carrying the sound.
