The LANG School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management congratulates Alyssa Scott as the recipient of the 2021/22 Dorothy Shantz Memorial Scholarship and the Frank Hughes Memorial Scholarship!

Alyssa is a 3rd year student in the Hospitality & Tourism Management (HTM) major, as well as a co-op student. Alyssa shares with us, “These awards are an amazing gift and recognition of how far I have come as a student, leader, and person and I am so encouraged to continue working hard and learning more about the hospitality industry.”

Alyssa recommends everyone to get involved in extracurriculars in any way you can. “Being part of organizations outside of courses including student associations, work, and sports have helped me make important connections and learn important skills that you cannot gain from the classroom setting.”

Job Summary
Opened in December 2018, the NEW Courtyard by Marriott Burlington is the newest hotel to the Burlington/Oakville region features 135 guestrooms and suites with 1800 sq. ft of flexible meeting space, indoor salt-water pool, state-of-the-art fitness centre, and on-site Bistro Restaurant, Lounge & Patio.

Your warm personality, work ethics and excellent customer service skills will reflect how our guests perceive the hotel.

Responsibilities
• Taking accurate orders and partnering with team members to serve food and beverages that meet or exceed guests' expectations
• Complete restaurant opening and closing duties including setting up necessary supplies and tools
• Cleaning all equipment areas, locking equipment doors, etc.
• Set up stock and maintain work areas
• Take orders from customers, input orders in micros, and obtain payment
• Prepare coffee and other beverages
• Work in all F&B areas, including busing, cleaning and resetting tables
• Be able to serve alcoholic beverages
• Deal with guest requests in a courteous, prompt, and professional manner
• Maintain standards of punctuality, uniform and personal hygiene as required by Hotel policy

Required Skills
• Prior experience with Starbucks, Micros, banquets, catering and hotel is strongly preferred
• Smart Serve certified required
• Self-starting personality with an even disposition
• Ability to effectively deal with guest and employee concerns in a friendly and positive manner
• General knowledge of food and food preparation techniques
• Able to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
• Self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision
• Must be able to understand both oral and written English
• Must be legally permitted to work in Canada
