Most basements are storage rooms with couches.

The box of holiday decorations. The treadmill nobody uses. The extra fridge nobody remembers is down there. A television. A worn sectional. Beige carpet. Not the primary suite that gets closed off by 10pm. Not the basement they visit on movie nights. There is a quiet moment that happens on every project, usually the morning after the reveal, when I enjoy a quiet coffee and think about how many of these homes are out there now.

Kitchens that families still cook in every night. Bathrooms that still feel like retreats a decade later. Basements that became the room the whole family gravitates toward. Homes across Burlington and the Halton Region that stopped fighting the people living in them and started giving something back every single morning.
