Halfway through Men's Health Month, we are reminded that times have changed. Let's continue to break the stigma and bring up conversations on men's mental, social and physical well-being. Whether it's at home, in your workplaces or communities, seeking out support is a strength that gets easier with time.

Continuons à briser le tabou et à engager le dialogue sur le bien-être mental, social et physique des hommes. Que ce soit à la maison, sur votre lieu de travail ou au sein de votre communauté, demander de l’aide est une force qui devient plus facile à mobiliser avec le temps.

Another year, another successful fishing derby for Unit 53 members in Prince George. Congratulations to Travis Smiley who took first place for the second year in a row, closely followed by Chris Dubuc and Sam Cunningham. This year featured deep fried taquitos, a good time & great company!

Une nouvelle année, un nouveau concours de pêche couronné de succès pour les membres de l'unité 53 à Prince George ! The long-awaited Federal anti-scab legislation, won after decades of advocacy by workers, was put to the test during last year’s strike at Rogers in Abbotsford, B.C. Despite solidifying the right to strike and strengthening collective bargaining, the Employer exposed a convenient loophole in the legislation that allowed them to use replacement workers in the form of outside managers.

On June 8th, the NDP introduced new anti-scab legislation to close the loophole and enforce the anti-scab legislation as it was intended – to protect the integrity and fairness of collective bargaining and our right to strike!

L’adoption du projet de loi tant attendue contre le recours aux briseurs de grève, obtenue après des décennies de mobilisation des travailleurs, a été mise à l’épreuve lors de la grève de l’année dernière chez Rogers à Abbotsford, en C-B. Bien que cette loi ait consolidé le droit de grève et renforcé la négociation collective, l’employeur a mis en évidence une faille commode dans le projet de loi qui lui a permis de recourir à des travailleurs de remplacement sous la forme de gestionnaires externes.

Le 8 juin, le NPD a présenté un nouveau projet de loi, anti-briseurs de grève visant à combler cette faille et à faire respecter la loi anti-briseurs de grève telle qu’elle a été conçue – pour protéger l’intégrité et l’équité de la négociation collective ainsi que notre droit de grève !

USW Local 1944 was in Ottawa again today, supporting an NDP bill to close a loophole in Anti-Scab legislation and ban the use of out-of-area managers as scabs / replacement workers. More to come.
