Finding a contractor to take on the responsibility of installing a new roof on your home can be overwhelming! Here are some red flags to avoid when searching for a residential roofing contractor. (These are general recommendations and are not legal advice!)

Avoid Contractors who
1) Solicit their contracts by going door to door.
2) Demand a large down payment for materials before work begins.
3) Refuse to give you a written contract that outlines the work they will and will not be doing.
4) Provide only a PO box as their business address.

Do not hesitate to receive written estimates from more than one company!

Here are a few of the most common ways for water to find it's way into your home from a roof with shingles:

• Flashing (thin pieces of metal) has cracked
• Broken or improperly sealed shingles
• Damaged vents or chimney
• Ice Dam buildup
• Skylight installation issues
• Clogged gutters
• Condensation in your Attic

The most important part of repairing a leak is to know the source and cause. When an accurate pathway has been investigated it is time to perform a complete repair (or an intermediate repair with a plan to perform a complete repair or replacement soon). Being accurate at the start saves time and money.
