I attended a funeral a couple of months ago. A neighbor who had immigrated from Poland as a child had passed away. While listening to her family describe her life I realized that today's young people (not all) think the older people around them had all the things they have now when they were starting out. Her story was that her father and brother moved to Canada to get a job and get things ready for her and her mother several months later. They lived in a basement suite, a family of 4 and built a life for themselves her in Calgary with joy. I cannot imagine suggesting to some entitled brat that they live in a basement suite, live frugally in order to save for a down payment. I was so broke at university I had to choose between tampons and contact solution at the end of the winter term. It never occurred to me that I should ask my single mother for help - I was a grown up.
