A little behind-the-scenes…

These are my notes after sitting in your clinics observing consults.

Pages of them.

And here’s what I see again and again:

You’re talking too much.
And it’s costing you the “yes.”
Your patient didn’t come in for a lecture.
She came to talk about herself — her concerns, her fears, her goals, her budget.

When we fill the space with “tech talk”…
we lose her.

Because a confused patient doesn’t say yes.

This isn’t about knowing more.
You already know enough.
It’s about how you structure the consult.

I cringe when I observe at clinic for the day.

The team are a great group. It’s not that they don’t care. They don’t know how to bring it up skin care so they don’t. It’s an identity issue.

The nurse sees herself as a nurse. The esthetician sees herself as an esthetician. The doctor sees himself as a doctor.

Nobody walked in that morning thinking “today I’m the person who makes sure every patient leaves with what they actually need where products are concerned.”

So the patient walks out with no skincare.

The nurse thought the esthetician would bring it up. The esthetician figured the front desk would catch it at checkout. The doctor hired a whole team so someone else would handle it.

And the patient just... leaves.

Before you hire someone new or build a whole system around this the most worthwhile thing you can do first is get honest about one thing: this is actually everyone’s job.

The problem with that? Everyone’s job is usually nobody’s job.

So the real question to ask every single person on your team…no matter their role…is this:

“In your role, what do you see as your part in connecting patients with a product that could actually help them solve the problem they came in for?”

(if the patient doesn’t want any product today and they say so that’s OK but you’ve done your job in asking offering or inviting them to try an at home solution).

Everyone has a role in this. But they don’t all have to do it the same way.

You’re editing marketing captions in your head and not even hearing what others are saying to you.

This is what it looks like when your clinic runs you and not the other way around.

Events don’t create problems, they reveal them.

If your last event felt chaotic, if you did everything yourself, if your team didn’t show up the way you needed... the event wasn’t the issue.

It amplified the cracks that were already there.

❌️ Undefined roles
❌️ Low conversion skills
❌️ Team members who are amazing at service but freeze at sales

I used to believe that hiring the right people was enough.

Sharp. Skilled. Independent.

I genuinely believed that they could do what they said they could do.

But even the most capable team needs direction.

They need clarity.

What I thought was hands-off trust was actually quiet disconnection.

Like it or not, the burden of providing clarity is on us - the clinic owner or manager.
