A small but important low-wage LMIA change took effect August 18, 2026.

For the special cap calculation, ESDC now looks at employers with fewer than 10 employees at a given work location.

That can mean up to 1 low-wage TFW at a location subject to the 10% cap, or up to 2 where the 20% cap applies.

It does not guarantee LMIA eligibility. Refusal-to-process rules, recruitment, occupation, wages and other requirements still apply.

If you operate multiple small locations, recalculate the cap by work location before assuming you don't qualify.

IRCC plans to propose replacing the three separate classes.

Super Visa approved âś…

A lot of families think Super Visa approval is mainly about meeting the income requirement and getting insurance.

Those are important — but they’re not the whole application.

IRCC can still look at the purpose of the visit, finances, family situation and whether the parent is genuinely coming to Canada temporarily.

Every file is different, so one approval doesn’t guarantee the same result for another family.

If you’re planning a Super Visa application for your parents or grandparents, make sure you’re building the full case — not just checking boxes.

Can you apply for a Spousal Open Work Permit without AOR?

In most cases, you need the AOR for your spousal sponsorship application before applying for the open work permit.

However, an exception may apply when your current work permit, study permit or temporary resident status will expire **within two weeks or less**.

Simply submitting the PR application does not automatically make everyone eligible to apply without AOR.

Your current status, expiry date and the type of sponsorship application must be reviewed before applying.

Hiring an immigration representative does not mean your application gets special treatment—and no one can promise you an approval.

What you should expect is honest advice, careful preparation and a clear explanation of the risks in your case.

Before paying anyone, make sure they are authorized. And if someone tells you to hide information, change the facts or submit false documents, walk away.

Even when a representative prepares your application, you are still responsible for everything submitted under your name.
