Pleased to have been invited to speak at the International Children's Safety Service Conference in Budapest, Hungary September 26-27. I will be addressing how past methods of educating people, particularly our youth about being more cyber-safe and cyber-savvy must be improved if we are to reduce rates of cyber-victimization more effectively. Special thank you to Dr. Tibor Kiss, Senior Lecturer at National University of Public Service, Budapest, Hungary, for inviting me and arranging for me to present.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhoJDKryKj8

I am pleased to have been asked to MC the 3rd annual White Hat Conference June 1 - 2, 2022. Hosted by Boston University’s Metropolitan College (MET) Criminal Justice Graduate Programs in collaboration with Utica College and the Center for Cybercrime Investigation & Cybersecurity, the 2022 White Hat Conference is made possible by a grant from the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), awarded to MET professors Lou Chitkushev and Kyung-shick Choi.

Over the two days of morning and afternoon sessions, subject matter experts will share their expertise on emerging technologies, laws, and policies—while highlighting the challenges faced by law enforcement. Furthermore, the conference will host a job fair to assist students with internship opportunities within the areas of computer forensics and digital evidence. This will help establish a corroborative approach that can further promote the development and implementation of internship/co-op programs.

This year's event, focusing on the "Evolution of Illicit Crypto Use", promises to be an exciting and informative event. In addition to an impressive list of speakers engaged in the area of cybercrime investigation and cybersecurity, a select group of three-member teams from around the world will compete for three awards by presenting solutions to solving complex cybercrime events to an internationally recognized panel of cybercrime experts.

I encourage anyone interested in learning more about cybercrime prevention initiatives - students, academics, private industry, government and law enforcement agencies to register for this no-cost video conference.

Hope to see you there!

Wanted to share my latest Kingsville Observer article published today: "Cryptocurrencies getting lots of celebrity hype, but are they worth the investment?" This is a topic I get asked frequently about, and decided to write a basic primer on the subject to cover some of the more basic aspects of cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin and its imitators have seen massive increases in value as well as severe market drops Actress and social media influencer Gwyneth Paltrow promotes it. American rapper Snoop Dog hypes it. And Elon Musk now allows use of it to purchase a Tesla. So why the interest in cryptocurrencies like Bitc...

The holiday season is a special time for all – shoppers, and cybercriminals alike!

Canadians will spend over $30B while shopping during the holiday season – Americans over $200B, all the while, sharing copious amounts of personal and financial information, often over unsecured networks, into the waiting hands of cybercriminals.

In this column, I share an experience I had where someone attempted to trick me into responding to a fake invoice.

Online scammers love the Christmas shopping season Recently, I received notification from a company which had processed an annual auto-renewal payment. The next day, I received a second invoice appearing to be from the same organization for a significantly greater amount and for products I had not a...

Pleased to have been invited to co-author an article with Dr. Robert Cadigan of Boston University for the new journal of AI, Robotics & Workplace Automation that will be released imminently by Henry Stewart Publications.

Dr. Cadigan and I are continuing our research in the area of cybercrime, social engineering, and the influences related to generational differences in the decisions we make about adopting advancements in technology into our lives, based to a large degree on our generational tendencies.
AI has become another significant advancement in our lives that will change how we function as individuals and interact with others. It will have a powerful impact on how we think, what our decision processes will look like in the future, and to what degree we will come to depend on others making decisions for us.

Thanks again to HSP - in particular Publisher Daryn Moody, for having the insight to create this fascinating and important new peer-reviewed journal. And congrats to all who contributed!

Looking forward to the release of the first issue shortly.

Here is a link to the publication for those who might wish to subscribe.

A selection of articles and case studies scheduled for the inaugural volume of Journal of AI, Robotics & Workplace Automation includes: Making the case for a broad view of AI Thomas H.
