“This year I celebrated 25 years in HR. One of the biggest lessons that changed the direction of my career was understanding that most HR professionals are never taught how the business makes money. They are rarely invited to sit in on a sales pipeline review or an operations capacity meeting - we have come a long way to change this. 💫

What we are taught and spend years training in is understanding human behavior, and how to develop people strategies that will leverage the best of human skills in roles needed for the business to succeed; while celebrating the people who are equally rewarded for their contribution to an organization’s success.🏅

All of this matters. Employees are the pride of a business, and they continue to drive the most important business function forward in a company because every business in the world is about people.

Nothing prepares an HR Executive more for a debate across the table from a CEO and CFO to state their case for investment dollars for their department, than using the language of these peers. ✨Although English is the universal language, the beauty of working with people in different countries is often the opportunity to learn, speak and understand parts of their own local language. When communicating with prospective clients or team members who may not be proficient in English, how do you navigate any limitations in English proficiency to ensure a successful collaboration?

✨I find it inspiring to become a part of the conversation and engage with other leaders in different countries to recognize their unique processes for their teams. We are honored to return and represent as one of the 100 diverse female Ambassadors this year in helping the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Canada raise $1 Million dollars through the 2026 Women for Wishes campaign.

We aren’t always aware of the possibilities our presence has in enriching the lives of others; especially for children who are in need of our support to live a fulfilling life with opportunities that we often take for granted. Wishes are a powerful psychological intervention that bring to life the most heartfelt wish of a child facing a critical illness:

⭐️ 99% of parents reported that the wish experience gave their children increased feelings of happiness.

⭐️ 97% of adult former wish kids report improved mental and emotional health because of their wish experiences.

⭐️ 96% of parents said the wish experience strengthened their families.

⭐️ 92% of parents observed a reduction in fear and anxiety among wish kids’ siblings.

In support of Make-A-Wish® Canada, we published our book to make an indefinite impact for children. Purchasing this book supports the donations necessary to drive Make-A-Wish® Canada’s and this year’s Women for Wishes campaign’s initiative that will make a life-changing impact for so many children in need.
