We live on an acreage and for several years we have investigated the pros of obtaining solar panels. When we finally took the plunge this year and purchased 16 solar panels (5.1 kWatt), we feel we are leading the way in our neighborhood to become more self-sufficient and energy efficient. We feel this is a good investment—financially and environmentally. So far, since June 2019, we have generated 1.500 kilowatts of energy. Prices have come down a lot in the past five years to make the solar array more affordable. Our system covers our annual needs of consumption. When electricity rates go up, we get the benefit of generating back to the grid, at the increased rate. We can monitor the wattage gains each day.
The bi-directional meter installed helps us to see the gains we get by showing the surplus solar power that is going back to the grid giving
others in our neighborhood clean electrical needs. Also, we can monitor the panels from anywhere by simply using a smart phone, or computer, etc. Even on cooler, cloudy days, we are still generating kilowatts of electricity.
