In a time when organizations have been struggling, there is now the added inconvenience of the dark underworld business that is cybercrime.

We are seeing that cybercriminals are building ransomware programs with the intent to perform malicious attacks on unsuspecting businesses.

It is more important than ever to be protected. Every member of your organization, no matter what size of business you have, should understand the identifiable and recognizable traits of a phishing attempt.

Some basic and fundamental tips for recognizing phishing scams include:
• Poor grammar and/or poor spelling
• Claims that are “too good to be true”
• Claim to be from well-known companies, agencies, universities, or individuals
• They cast a “wide net” with language that may be very generic
• There is a sense of urgency with the request, eg. “need this now!” or “financial penalty if not received ASAP!"
