Being an animal lover with a peculiar fascination for reptiles, birds and wild cats, I started my journey in the reel world at the Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh which is a migratory as well a geological home to a variety of birds. I come from a family of professionals, MBAs and government servants which automatically built in a lot of pressure and trained me to think of and plan a lucrative career ah
ead. In an attempt to fit in, and be successful in the 'better known sense of the word', I flew to Australia to do a Bachelors degree in Accounts. I set up a small base in Melbourne and started my academic pursuit. However, while I went to school and back, and travelled around in the continent , and the Victorian outback specifically , over weekends and free time, it became impossible for me to overlook the natural wild beauty that existed beyond the hustle bustle of all things conventional and commercial. I felt an urge to capture this raw beauty to remind me to keep going. That’s when I first invested in my first DSLR in 2008 , A Canon 400D with a set of basic kit lenses. I tried my hand at the gorgeous landscape, flora of the country, portraits and more. However, I soon realized that I got my spark only from capturing the most basic instincts of the animal kingdom. I then developed a defined taste for all things wild while I started observing few species for the way they react to humans, how they prey, how they drool and most of all how they communicate. Their world intrigued me to explore more and more about them. By this time, I decided to come back to India. Here I was back to Chandigarh and I started travelling to forest areas and Himachal for bird spotting. it was satisfying, however it wasn't as wild as I wanted it. I went on to do a 7-day tour to the Sundarbans in West Bengal, which was an eye opener. I was lucky to get a few majestic shots of a majestic tiger and other wildlife. Amongst other places I then also travelled to Bannerghatta National Park in Karnataka as i heard of a few lion cubs. I stayed there for a couple of days and captured these beauties. I went back to this reserve and visited the cubs, which had now become full grown lions.I am now planning my first ever trip to Masai Mara in Africa to experience the never-seen-anywhere-else wilderness.
While in love with animals, it moves me to see the rate at which they are going extinct. When someone around me gets excited about the future , it’s usually about all the ‘new’ things that will be around as we pass each day. However , not everyone realizes that the future , as it looks to be today , is equally about life that’s disappearing from the face of the earth. My aim is to lead and be part of conservation projects that make the civilized appreciate God's gift to us and preserve it.
