Congratulations to Calgary Airports and all of the partners involved in the September 9 groundbreaking for the new Alberta Training Centre of Excellence for Aviation and Aerospace at YYC Calgary International Airport.

Siksika Nation Elder Vincent Yellow Old Woman opened the announcement by sharing a few words about our responsibility to care for and steward the land, followed by a prayer.

It was a pleasure to attend alongside representatives from industry and government, including the Honourable Steven MacKinnon, Canada’s Minister of Transport.

The new centre is part of YYC AeroNex and will bring together aviation training, technology and education, with CAE, WestJet and Mount Royal University among the partners involved. The facility is expected to open in 2028.

Thank you to Calgary Airports for the work you continue to do and for recognizing the importance of including Indigenous voices and perspectives as part of these important milestones.

We look forward to seeing the project progress and the opportunities it will create for Calgary, Alberta and the aviation industry.

We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of one of our beloved Elders, Monica (Sattsitapiaakii) Chief Moon of the Blood/Kainai Nation. We extend our deepest condolences to her husband John, family, friends and her community.

Monica was a beloved Elder, Knowledge Keeper and Blackfoot language instructor.

Over the years, she worked closely with organizations in Calgary and Southern Alberta to promote culturally safe, community-based approaches to healing and support.

Monica generously shared her wisdom, prayers, and teachings with us at The Path Forward and our clients. Her gentle spirit and generous heart touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She will be greatly missed. May her legacy continue to inspire future generations, and may her teachings live on in the hearts of all those she touched.

The Calgary Stampede is well underway!

Today, we had the pleasure of attending the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino Pancake Breakfast, where we enjoyed great food, meaningful conversations, and the opportunity to connect with so many amazing people from the community.

If you're heading to Stampede, be sure to visit the Elbow River Camp. It's an incredible opportunity to learn about the First Nations whose ancestors have called Mohkinstsis home since time immemorial. The Camp offers authentic cultural experiences, storytelling, traditional knowledge, and a chance to learn about the rich histories, cultures, that continue to shape this region today.

The Calgary Stampede is more than a celebration—it's an opportunity to recognize and honour the enduring presence, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples.
