Somewhere along the way, the AI tool I use for emails stopped asking me first and just started sending.

That's worth pausing on, especially if you run your business alone. There's no one else checking behind you. If it sends the wrong thing, you find out after the client already read it.

Same goes for AI that spends money on a pattern it noticed, deletes old files it decided were clutter, or answers a client question in a tone that isn't yours.

The fix for all four isn't complicated. Draft mode instead of auto-send. A spend ceiling it can't cross alone. Archive instead of delete. Read-before-send for anything client-facing.

Four settings, four tools, about twenty minutes, no developer required.

I wrote up exactly where to find each setting and why solo operators need this more than bigger companies do.

πŸ“» The Wilglobo Signal

BC just offered small business owners a $500 million lifeline against US tariffs. It is a loan, interest-free, but still a loan you pay back.

Three things moved this week that touch your Tuesday morning, not just the headlines:

β†’ BC's relief fund comes with a youth hiring tax credit attached, so if you hire young staff there is a second lever here most owners will miss because they stopped reading at "loan"
β†’ Ottawa's small business tax rate looks set to stay at 9% with the profit threshold unchanged, so stop waiting for a lower number to show up in your 2026 plan, it is not coming
β†’ The Bank of Canada's October 28 decision matters more for its timing than its number, so any renewal or draw you are planning near that date is riding on uncertainty, not math

πŸ‘‰ Time your next renewal or credit decision around October 28, not around the rate itself, because the volatility before the announcement is the real event.

The briefing carries the judgement call on which of these to move on first if you're tariff-exposed, and what I would actually do about the other two before year end. Read it Monday =>

The Weekend Howl #20 🦊

Thirteen weeks of writing the true version of my life out loud, right here. This week I want to talk about what that has actually cost me, no highlight reel.

Week one, I sat at my kitchen table after a full day at my regular job and opened a blank page. I could've written the clean founder bio, the tidy one that goes down easy. Instead I wrote about selling sugarcane by the road in Uganda at thirteen years old. I hit publish before I could talk myself out of it.

There was no taking that back. Once your name sits next to that story, it sits there for good, coz you can't unsay it later just because you're tired or it's inconvenient.

πŸ”„ The cost of telling the truth in public isn't embarrassment, my friend, it's permanence. You can't quietly file it away when it stops feeling comfortable.

πŸ‘‰ Once you say who you actually are out loud, you can't go back to performing someone easier to look at. That's the whole price of it.

I've watched other founders do this same thing. Someone drops the polished version and admits how many tries it took before the one that finally worked. The comments go quiet for a beat. Then something in how they write everything after that shifts.

That's the trade. You lose the exit door. You gain the fact that nobody can ever catch you in a lie you never told them.

Three things to do before Monday, none of them cost you anything but time:

1. Open your very first post or pitch and reread it with cold eyes. You'll see exactly how much you were still performing back then.

2. Change one line in your bio that sounds impressive but isn't quite true. Swap it for one that's plain and is. The plain one is the one people actually remember.

3. Say one true, boring thing about your week to one real person, not the highlight version. That's the muscle that makes the public version easier every time.

Not a highlight reel. One true line, thirteen weeks running, no traffic up there on the peak but I'm still climbing.

What's the one thing you've said publicly that you can never take back? πŸ’ͺ

If you work alone, you don't have anyone double checking the work before it goes out the door. So this distinction matters to you more than most.

A chatbot answers. It gives you a draft, you edit it, you hit send.

An agent acts. It sends the email, places the order, changes the price, without waiting for you to look first.

Most tools you're using today, like ChatGPT or a chatbot on your website, are still in the answering camp. Statistics Canada's June 2026 data backs this up: among businesses already using AI, under 30 percent use chatbots and under 25 percent use large language models. Almost none of that acts on its own. You're not behind, that's just where things are.

Before you let any tool act without your review, ask two things.

Can I undo this within the hour if it's wrong?

Will I actually see what it did, somewhere I'll check?

If you're not sure on either, keep yourself in the loop a while longer.

I put together a twenty minute audit in the full post, four simple steps to find out which parts of your business are already making decisions without you.

If you run your business alone, you know this Monday. Eleven emails from Friday still sitting there. A new enquiry, an invoice question, a client you have to let down gently. Nobody behind you to help draft the reply. You're it.

One template that saves a lot of grief is the polite no:

Hi [Name],

Thanks for thinking of me for this. Having looked at it properly, I don't think I'm the right fit, mainly because [one honest reason].

I don't want to take this on and do a half job of it. If it's useful, [a type of person or resource] might be a better match.

[Your name]

The trick is the reason. Keep it vague and it sounds like an excuse. Make it specific and honest, and people respect you more for saying no than they would have if you'd said a reluctant yes.

I put together seven of these in total, the full wording for each one, covering the emails that come up almost every week when you're running things on your own.

Do you need permission to start, or do you just need to start and let the permission catch up later? Genuinely asking, because I have watched people wait years for one and I have watched people skip it entirely.

A small consulting firm in Calgary asked three agencies for a basic website. Fifteen thousand dollars. Eighteen thousand. Twenty two thousand. Three quotes, one Tuesday, one inbox.

They never lost the ability to get a website built. They lost the assumption that the going rate had anything to do with what the work actually cost.

Here is what I keep coming back to, four years and one incorporated company later.

=> Looking legitimate is not a budget you save up for, it is a decision you make before you have proof.

I built websites for free from 2019 to 2023, full time job on one side, no clients waiting on the other, just people who needed a door on the internet and could not afford what three agencies were charging for one.

Most people think you need capital, staff and a track record before you are allowed to call yourself a founder. Most of the time what you actually need is one project, done properly, before anyone is paying you a cent.

So who gave you permission to start what you are building right now, and if the honest answer is nobody, what are you still waiting for?

πŸ“» The Wilglobo Signal

Ottawa built a fast lane for tax certainty and the toll to get in is a billion dollars in new investment. That is not a typo.

Three things moved this week, and here is what they actually do to you.

β†’ A new deduction lets businesses write off capital investments immediately, but if your purchase does not fit the category, the saving is zero
β†’ The CRA was told to fast-track rulings for billion-dollar investments, so if you need clarity on your own tax position you are in the slow queue with everyone else
β†’ Transfer pricing rules in place since 1997 are finally being simplified for smaller businesses, and this is the one most operators have never heard of and most need

πŸ‘‰ If you move goods or pricing across a border with any related entity, go check your documentation this week before anyone asks you to.

The briefing carries which of these three to move on first, and what I would actually do about the other two this month. Not more headlines, a judgement call. Grab it here =>
