So one of our people got some attention online this week.
Off-duty, long shift behind her, earbuds in, watching her Uber crawl toward her on the map. She walked past a bit of chaos outside a stampede tent and didn’t react. The internet’s read: security guard ignores a scuffle.
Here’s the part that doesn’t fit in a comment section. After enough long nights managing partiers, your brain files the surrounding chaos under “normal” and keeps walking.
There’s a name for it: normalcy bias. Flailing arms outside a festival tent at midnight is just a regular Tuesday.
We’ll own the uniform part. She was off the clock, but people see the yellow, not the schedule. When it’s ok to be in uniform is on us to work through with our team, and we are.
The bigger point: the people in that uniform are still people. Tired, heading home, wanting to get there safe like anyone else.
Be decent to them. We expect them to be decent to you.
