Hey! We wanted to check in and let you know how our field season is going 🥾

🪏Everyone has been hard at work (as usual) and we love to see all the happy (albeit recently quite rainy) faces out in the field!

We are currently facing some slowdowns on obtaining Historical Resources Act approval in Alberta, meaning planning ahead is more important than ever. What was previously a 4-8 week average review process is now averaging 10-12 weeks so submitting early, especially if construction is planned for this upcoming winter or spring, is critical!‼️Check out our LinkedIn post from a few weeks ago for more information!

📧 Not sure where to start? We're always happy to help! Email us at [email protected]

A week and a half ago we also held CRM company wide baseball game! We had so much fun and hope to continue this on throughout the year. These events are such wonderful ways for archaeologists to have an opportunity to chat, share stories, and gain wonderful working relationships! ⚾️🧢

Archaeological monitoring means long days on active construction sites and checking every scoop of dirt for archaeological material.🚜 When traditional shovel testing can't cut it (frozen ground, pavement, meters of fill), monitoring steps in to make sure nothing gets missed while the ground gets opened up!

🖐 When something is found, construction stops. No exceptions until we know what we're dealing with.

In our latest LinkedIn newsletter, we're sharing what this side of fieldwork really looks like, including the safety demands and the unique challenges female archaeologists often face working solo on site! Check it out📍 https://tinyurl.com/2fdejp9k

Our awesome CEO, Margarita de Guzman, sat down with the Beyond Technology podcast to talk about something she is pretty passionate about: using tech to make archaeology work better🤩

🤝 From digitizing field data collection to experimenting with AI and automated reporting, Margarita dives into how the right tools can eliminate bottlenecks and free up our team to focus on the work that actually needs human expertise.

She also talks about leadership and building a culture where mistakes are learning opportunities, and why the goal isn't to replace archaeologists with technology, but to support them 🫶

🐻 Working in Alberta and British Columbia means one thing is almost guaranteed… you’re in bear country.

From dense Boreal forests to the foothills and Rocky Mountains, bear awareness is an essential part of working safely in the field.🌲 In our latest blog, we break down the differences between black bears and grizzlies, how to recognize signs of bear activity, ways to avoid encounters, and what to do if you come face-to-face with one of these incredible animals.

After all, the best bear encounter is the one that never happens, although spotting one safely from your truck would be pretty cool. 👀🚙

Whether you’re a field professional, outdoor enthusiast, or just curious about wildlife safety, this is a must-read.

📍Check out the full blog on our website [circleconsulting.ca/community] and stay informed (and armed with bear spray) for your next adventure in bear country.

Today, on June 11th, we observe the National Day of Reconciliation 🧡 also known as Remembering the Children Day to serve as a reminder of the 150,000 Indigenous children who were forcibly taken from their homes and placed in the residential school system from the 1870s to the mid-1990s.

The date also coincides with the Canadian government’s 2008 apology for the residential school system, which asked for forgiveness for the abuses that took place while the schools were in operation.

🤝 This day reminds us that reconciliation is ongoing and requires active listening, learning, and meaningful action.

Let’s continue to support healing, amplify Indigenous voices, and work together for a more fair and inclusive future 🫶

Happy Sweet 16 to us! 🎉

Today, we’re celebrating 16 incredible years of Circle! A huge thank you to our amazing team, past and present, our partners, clients, and everyone who has been part of this journey. We truly wouldn’t be here without you. 💛

⏱️ Circle was founded in 2010 by Margarita de Guzman. In those early days, Marg led most projects solo, bringing in subcontractors as needed. Her drive, determination, and deep passion for archaeology built the foundation for everything Circle would become. In 2015, we acquired Altamira, marking a key moment in our evolution. 💫

📈 What started as a one-person operation has grown into a team of so many talented professionals. From small finds to major excavations, every project has strengthened our commitment and dedication to responsible heritage management and meaningful collaboration. 🪏 To our staff: thank you for your dedication, expertise, and heart. You are what makes Circle, Circle.

We’re proud of our journey so far… but we’re just getting started! 👀

🥂 Here’s to 16 years of archaeology and to everything still to come! Check out this throwback of what Circle’s office used to look like, and how great it looks now, full of our wonderful staff! 📸
