June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize the rich history, heritage and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis 🧡

🗣️ Today also marks the anniversary of the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. We pause to remember and reflect on the ongoing calls for justice and action to address the violence faced by Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit peoples.

We are committed to listening, learning, and supporting Indigenous communities. 🤝 We recognize the importance of truth, reconciliation, and amplifying Indigenous voices in our work and beyond.

Let us stand together in remembrance, solidarity, and action, today and every day!🫶

Today, we stand in solidarity for Moose Hide Campaign Day. 🧡

🌱 What began as a BC-born, Indigenous-led grassroots movement has grown into a nationwide call to action, engaging Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities alike in the effort to end violence against women and children.

By wearing the moose hide pin, we honour survivors, raise awareness, and commit to standing up against gender-based violence across Canada. Together, through ceremony, education, and collective action, we can create meaningful change 🫶

It’s Mental Health Week! This week (May 4–10) is a reminder of something we all need: connection. 💚

🧠 Connection is at the heart of our well-being, yet so many people across Canada are feeling alone. This week, we’re joining CMHA’s call to build stronger communities by sparking small, everyday moments of connection with others and with ourselves.

A message, a walk, a check-in, a shared laugh; these simple acts can make a meaningful difference. Because when we connect, we support one another, reduce isolation, and we strengthen mental health for everyone. 🤝

🫶 Let’s take time to reach out, listen, and show up. Together, we can help more people feel seen, supported, and connected.

May 5 is a National Day of remembrance and activism honouring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people. ❤️

Inspired by the REDress Project created by Métis artist Jaime Black, the red dresses we see displayed; hanging from trees, in windows, worn or carried, represent both presence and absence. They are a powerful symbol of lives taken too soon, voices silenced, and families forever changed. 🫂

❤️‍🩹 Today is about more than awareness. It’s about listening, learning, standing in solidarity, and continuing to call for justice and systemic change.

🌷 Does April snow count if we still want May flowers... or does it have to be rain?

Anyways, April being over means it's field season now! Spring Kickoff 2026 was a blast, with so many wonderful speakers, presentations, and people involved, and we are ready to hit the ground running this field season. 🏃 And a huge thank you to Lara Murphy (President & CEO of the ) for the awesome photo, super cool tour, and for answering all of our questions during our visit!

If you haven’t seen it yet, we have a NEW blog post LIVE on our website! You won’t want to miss this one 👀 We break down everything a student needs to feel prepared going into the field.

From helicopter drop-offs in remote forests 🚁 to long days trekking through the bush, fieldwork is no joke... but it’s also one of the most rewarding experiences out there.
Think: wildlife sightings, unreal views, and getting paid to explore your own backyard 🌲

Not sure what to pack? Wondering what those first few days actually feel like? Dheija, one of our wonderful Assistant Archaeologists and Marketing Coordinator, has you covered (hint: thrift stores are your best friend and “field legs” are real 😅).

📄 Every year, on April 23rd, UNESCO celebrates World Book and Copyright Day in recognition of the power of books as a bridge between generations and across cultures! 📖

📚 One of our amazing Assistant Archaeologists, Emily, put together a wonderful Book List for all of us, with books and short story collections, all written by Indigenous authors. Stay tuned for more books from her list! With each new page, they introduce us to new people, cultures and ideas 🧡
