ACTRA is proud to see our National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator, Marie Kelly, named to The Hollywood Reporter’s Most Powerful Women in Canadian Entertainment list for 2026.

Marie’s leadership through challenging collective bargaining negotiations and her guidance of ACTRA National through our industry’s tumultuous last decade, has positioned the union as the key voice for creative labour in Canada.

The honour, which follows ACTRA National President Eleanor Noble’s past inclusion, is not simply an acknowledgment of Marie’s tireless efforts on behalf of ACTRA members but also of the union’s place as a leader in the Canadian labour movement and the creative industries.

Congrats Marie!

What has been your favorite role?
Anything with action or horses is hard to beat... but I really loved playing Zach Redhill in Anna Pigeon, everybody involved on that set made it a great experience. Ultimately though, Name’s Jordan was probably the most fun. Working alongside stunt performers every day was pretty wild and really pushed me physically.

What do you do when you are not performing?
Outside of acting, I spend a fair bit of time messing around in music software and recording stuff. I play a few instruments, so I can occasionally disappear into that world for a while. I dabble with stunt training from time to time, but then I practice with real stunt performers and quickly realize I should probably stay in my lane.

What organization / activity are you involved with or passionate about that people would find interesting?
I love music production and experimenting with instruments one might not expect... like banjo. I also stay connected to a place called the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre. It had a really positive impact on my life, and I’ll always feel a bit of a debt of gratitude toward the place.

What Director would you like to work with?
Oof, I bet I’d love working on a David Fincher set. Or Denis Villeneuve would be super cool, I’ve always wanted to do sci fi.

What is your favorite movie and/or TV show?
Well I’ve watched The Office way too many times for me not to mention it. But in the last few years, Dune: Part Two absolutely blew me away.

As a Performer, what is one thing you wish you would have known sooner?
I wish I knew how much acting would do for me. Being pushed to stay present and real in a world where we can be so disconnected and preoccupied has been a blessing.

This week DGC Ontario hosted a screening of SAFE SETS: DYING TO WORK IN THE FILM INDUSTRY, followed by a panel discussion on safety on set featuring ACTRA Toronto Stunt Coordinator Alicia Turner. This is a critically important subject for our industry and we are appreciative of DGC Ontario for including us in the conversation.

An inspiring week of solidarity and Canadian labour power has now adjourned in the union city of Winnipeg.

The 31st Convention was a show of stength and unity from this country's labour movement, including by your union as we stood in power for performers' livelihoods.

The highlights were plenty but if we had to choose, it was witnessing ACTRA National President Eleanor Noble and President speaking their truth to Canada's gathered unions and successfully pushing a resolution on the National Commercial Agreement through The House of Labour.

Thank you to the Canadian Labour Congress and all of the unions who supported ACTRA this week and throughout our fight for performers' rights.
