Starting January 1, 2024, the cost-of-living financial requirement for study permit applicants will be raised to ensure that international students are better prepared for life in Canada. This threshold will be adjusted each year, similarly to other immigration programs. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gzKSc6GT

For 2024, a single applicant will need to show they have $20,635 in addition to their first year of tuition and travel costs. This change will apply to new study permit applications received on or after January 1, 2024.

Parents & Grandparents Sponsorship

Update on 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program
Ottawa, December 30, 2019

To ensure that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has sufficient time to complete the development of a new intake process for the 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program, the reopening of the program will be postponed until Ministerial Instructions are issued.

This means that the opportunity to express interest in sponsoring a parent or grandparent will not take place on January 1, 2020. Further information about the expected launch date and 2020 intake process will be available in the new year.

Marco Mendicino appointed new Canadian immigration minister

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has named Marco Mendicino as Canada’s next Minister of Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada.

A descendant of Italian immigrants to Canada, Mendicino represents the riding of Eglinton-Lawrence in Toronto, Ontario.

The 46-year-old has an extensive background in law and worked for nearly 10 years as a federal prosecutor. During this time, he helped put members of the “Toronto 18” terror group behind bars.

Mendicino will be responsible for trying to move forward with promises made by the Liberals during the recent federal election.
