My (Re) Birth of Venus program provides counselling, information & referrals to women dealing with sexual pain disorders. My goal is to help women heal their sexual pain via identifying & accessing the most appropriate resources for their situation.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): it's a therapeutic approach that emphasizes the acceptance or "making room for" one's thoughts & feelings, as they are in the present moment. No matter how uncomfortable those thoughts & feelings might be or how much we may want to attempt to distract from them. The commitment piece refers to committing to action based on your values. That is, using your values as tools to set goals that will make your life richer, fuller & more meaningful.

The word "resilience" comes from the Latin word "resilio," meaning "I bounce back." It's our ability to recover from adversity. There are multiple strategies for building our resilience to the adverse events in our lives. Self-care activities such as getting adequate sleep, eating a healthy diet & getting regular exercise are important strategies. Another one is to reflect on or determine what our strengths are. We might have an idea of what our strengths are already, based on what our friends & family tell us. However, we can also assess our strengths via a variety of tools.

When making an important decision in life, 1 useful question to ask yourself is "Will this make my life richer, fuller & more meaningful?" If the answer is yes, then this decision probably reflects a value or several values you have. Then the task is about setting goals for yourself that will align with your values.
When you're feeling stuck about something, think about your values. Who do you want to be & how do you want to show up in the world? What are the roles and activities that will help you achieve that?

Why is learning about positive psychology important? Why does it even matter to our day-to-day lives? It matters because learning about the positive aspects of the human condition gives us hope. It gives us hope that we are capable of being happy for longer & more consistent periods of time. It gives us hope that we are capable of making changes in our lives. It gives us hope in our own potential & our future.

What does it mean to "Make Friends with Failure"? Friends are people we enjoy spending time with. We visit them over and over again & they visit us. We do fun activities together, we confide in one another & support each other. It seems strange to want to do any of these things with failure. We want failure to disappear & never return. Hell, we'd prefer it didn't exist at all. However, the truth is that we will fail at things sometimes. We aren't perfect & neither is the universe. If we treat failure as a friend who will occasionally visit us, it makes it easier to view failure as a positive rather than a negative outcome. Failure can teach us about our strengths just as much as our weaknesses. Failure is a plot twist in the story of our lives.
