Purple Dragon carrots are the only purple carrot that stays purple when you cook them, hearty and easy to grow they are one of our favourites. The Early Orange stripe tomatoes are a new strain we tried this year and produce delicious and beautiful fruit.

A great year for some homegrown!!! All heirloom! All delicious! Needs to be thinned out but an excellent start.

When you can’t grow outwards...you grow upwards! I needed some more space for seedlings this year. As time goes by we generally have less and a space to work with than previous generations. Sometimes you just have to get creative and this space above my tortoise enclosure was looking like prime real estate. I’m super excited to try out this new Kind K5 XL1000 led grow light. I’m already astonished at its performance. Tomato seedlings should be started now under a decent grow light. Peppers and curcubits like cucumbers, melons, or squash, should be started in about three weeks or so for planting outside after May long weekend for Calgary conditions. Let the germination begin !!! Spring is officially here ! Just starting to organize and then order some seeds to plan out the growing season. These particular seeds are “Heirloom” varieties from Heritage Harvest Seed whom carry an incredible selection and product. If you’re unfamiliar with heirloom strains, they are strains generations old and sometimes endangered but they produce viable seeds that can be planted again and again. One step closer to self sufficiency!!!

We are a small startup trying to change the way Calgarians eat and also for them to gain back some independence and heritage whilst doing so. We offer yard evaluations and installations of garden beds and/or containers for growing vegetables and produce in your own backyard. We are able to do as little or as much as you like depending on your confidence and experience level. New to gardening ? But want to learn ? No problem! We offer building, planting, and maintenance services to fit your particular needs. We can just set you up in spring and let you run with it or we can provide regular maintenance and support until you are a regular urban farming vet. If you just want to enjoy healthy clean homegrown produce, no worries we can do the rest !!! With over 15 years of experience we also offer pond maintenance/repair as well as aquarium maintenance.
