“We’re getting the band back together!”
Big News: Frankie's back in town...

After working together for 12 years, apparently we just can’t get enough of each other and we're doing it again!

Please join me in welcoming Frankie O'Brien to our team as a Professional EOS Implementer!

Frankie and I worked side-by-side for 12 years at Entrix Sports and have been through A LOT together.

I'm so excited for him to join me on this journey because he's going to make such a difference for his clients.

His talents? Where I was the chaos, he was the storm. Frankie was the conscientious, diligent, behind-the-scenes builder and voice of reason. He has that unique ability to take chaotic complexity and turn it into actionable simplicity, a quality that has made him stand out as an exceptional leader of teams.

Thank goodness we had him, as he was critical to our success (as I wrote about in my book, Relentless AF).

I knew these talents would make him an exceptional Implementer.

He was also instrumental in implementing EOS at Entrix Sports, if it was up to me, it wouldn't have been successful.

So the reality is, he's been using and teaching EOS for as long as I've been.
We've been mulling over this idea (of Frankie being an EOS Implementer) for years and we've finally put it all together.

We are finally here!

Please join me in welcoming this guy to the team, and hey, if you know someone who might want to explore EOS a bit more, we've got a rockstar to help them! ;)

A note from Frankie, “Chris and I worked side-by-side every day for 12 years and have ridden every business roller coaster there is together, through every up and down. When you work that closely with someone for so long, you really get to know them, and we've just come through it all stronger and closer. When Chris approached me with the idea of being an EOS® Implementer and joining him and his team I had to say yes. We’re getting the band back together and it’s going to be great.”

Trust-building and Adaptation: two valuable skills as entrepreneurs.

A recent example of this was our forum trip to Las Vegas. A lot of work goes into planning a trip like this. Each day has an agenda packed with high value activities. Our forum has specific objectives on a retreat with a balance of learning, connecting and having some fun.
Our learning objective was to be filled by an outside facilitator, presenting on diversity in the workplace. They canceled the night before, as they’d tested positive for covid. Our moderator was crushed as they’d put a lot of work into finding the right person with the right message for our group. We were left high and dry with no help on the horizon.

But we’re entrepreneurs, we can figure this out. So, we went to work and lit up the phone lines, calling for help, putting various different ideas on the table. Thanks to Shelley Woodrow for giving us some local intel and connections. We took the temperature of our group and what everyone felt they needed at that moment. The resulting decision was time outdoors with a chance to talk and deepen the relationships between our members.
Hiking Turtlehead Peak in the Redrock Canyon area was a beautiful hike that got our heart rates up while giving us a chance to get to know each other that much better. Over time, I’ve learned that building trust between team members can be one of the most valuable exercises we can invest in as leaders. This focus on trust is the reason we don’t stay at hotels when we go on retreat. We book a house and make meals and clean up together. We’re there for US and our priorities are very clear. In this case, our MIA facilitator gave us the opportunity to elevate our trust game within our group and we made the most of it.

What are you doing to build trust this week with your team? When did you last have to adapt on the fly because something unexpected happened?

A good peer support group. I think everyone needs one, especially entrepreneurs and/or leaders. They push me and challenge me, support me and cry with me, laugh and have fun with me. I’m incredibly grateful for mine. They helped me noodle a very tricky situation last week that was insanely valuable to me, my business team and family. They shared experience and insight into something I knew very little about. What a gift!

Who’s in your peer support group?
If you don’t have one, I’d encourage you to consider finding one. It can be life changing!

𝟖 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬??!!!
I realized the other day that it’s been 8 years since I made the leap, joined the land of misfit toys and became an EOS Implementer. I paused for a moment and thought back at how far I’ve come in the last 8 years. Aside from how much hair I’ve grown, there were 8 lessons that stood out to me that I thought I’d share. Hopefully they can help you with whatever journey you’re on:

1. A new business really isn’t that much easier to build than the first one. Each business is its own puzzle to solve and has its own unique challenges.

2. Confidence comes through good reps. It takes humility to keep practicing, even when I think I’m pretty decent. Keep doing the work anyways.

3. Imposter syndrome is a sign I’m onto something. It means I’m pushing my edge and growing. Getting uncomfortable is a necessary part of growth.

4. Comparison is the thief of joy. We’re all on our own journey. Don’t pay attention to anyone else’s timelines or accomplishments.

5. Get freakish. Own thy quirky, freakish self. Letting my true, relentless AF (and fun) self loose has made me a better coach, teacher, facilitator, human. I’ve stopped trying to make everyone happy. I’d rather be my true self than morph into someone else to make everyone happy. It’s much less exhausting. Own it.

6. Community is king. Surrounding myself with good people is critical. The groups I hang with believe in each other, challenge each other, love each other, support each other. I’ve got an amazing crew around me from my DTI forum, my Wolfpack group and my EOS worldwide coaching team. You all rock!

7. Let the woowoo in. Getting to know myself and the softer, gooier side of life has helped me immensely. I meditate regularly now, slow down more, think more, love more, ponder more, journal more, spend more time connecting to my energy. It’s all helped me get more grounded and connect with another level of myself.

8. Compete less. Stop being so hyper-achievement-oriented and enjoy the journey more. Help others more. Rest more. Recover more. Have fun more. My family appreciates me more when I’ve struck a nice balance of rest, recovery and relentlessness.

If you reflect back, what are your key learnings since starting something new?

I disagree with Mr. Wonderful. I’ve started four successful companies and I don’t believe you have to sacrifice family to be a successful entrepreneur.
Is it all sunshine and roses? Nope. It’s not an easy journey, nor for the faint of heart.
You definitely have to be willing to work hard but taking breaks to regenerate, recharge, rethink is also critically important. Kevin thinks we’re sacrificing our families for a brighter future. What if our business isn’t successful? We’ve now lost our family AND our business. What if the future is NOW? Why don’t we change our thinking and prioritize our family now?
We can work hard, then take a break. Work hard then take a break.
Taking care of key family and friend relationships were critical to my success because when the s**t hit the fan, those same people had my back and were there to help pick me back up.
As leaders , I believe we have to chart the course. Show people the way. Both CAN be done at the same time. It’s AND not OR.

But to go into the game believing you have to sacrifice family to be successful???
Hell no.

It’s stuff like this that makes all of my time and effort worthwhile. Thanks for the great shout out about my book - September Plumer.

I discovered this author because he’s one of only 5 EOS Implementers in Alberta. What’s that? My absolute favorite business book is Traction by Gino Wickman and EOS is the operating system it introduces that businesses can use to be more strategic/successful. The book is like a miniature MBA - it’s genius. All entrepreneurs should read it. Implementers are coaches that will guide you through the process if you want professional help - and Chris is one. I followed him on LinkedIn out of curiosity and recently he promoted his new book.

DUDE. IT IS SO GOOD. I read it cover to cover in three hours because I couldn’t put it down.

Here are my favorite things about the book:

🔥 His approach is outstanding: he writes a chapter sharing his experience running a successful sporting goods company and then has two pages at the end of each chapter. One is a summary of business principles illustrated in the chapter. The second are growth exercises in the form of questions to get you thinking about how to use his stories and principles to help you. The takeaways are ultra clear.

🔥It is storytelling at its finest. I am taking a class right now on how to use storytelling to make presentations more interesting and more memorable and Chris clearly knows what he’s doing.

🔥 He had someone make simple illustrations of key moments in his entrepreneurial journey that appear throughout the book, and then in the last two pages get put together in a larger road map. What a lovely visual (and clever outline for his book!)

🔥 His principles are basic good business - but as any entrepreneur will tell you, sometimes the simple stuff can be forgotten and come back to bite you. I was impressed with the humility and vulnerability Chris showed as he talked about what he learned from the mistakes he made.

I did not expect to be so impressed with this book. What a treat it was. I’ve read over 50 books this year and this one is a top 5.

Growth without burnout…

𝗪𝗼𝘄, just wow is all I’ve got to say. This team has really blown me away with their efforts but they also blew away their targets. They made a plan last January that 2022 would be a 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝. They anticipated the upcoming obstacles, created a good game plan and executed the hell out of it.

Not only did they achieve their planned targets, they crushed them. To the tune of more than 300% growth (and not small numbers).

This kind of growth often comes with a heavy price = burnout. Not this team. They managed to get ahead of their problems enough that the growth didn’t crush their souls in the meantime. To me, that’s just as impressive as the growth # itself and definitely more important.

Well done team Zeno Renewables

I’m baaaaackkk! After taking time to chill out (literally), I’ve started off this year with a bang!

Over the holidays, even though the weather was frightful, I made sure to take time to enjoy the outdoors. I had a great time skiing and was quite proud of my beard frost!
The down time meant I completely disconnected from my work stuff: no email, no LinkedIn. I came back fully recharged and chomping at the bit to get after it.

How do you chill out to come back refreshed?

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗚𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗮𝘁 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁

Letting go is hard. Like really hard. In fact, 70% of most leaders don’t believe they’re good at delegating and 66% of their employees agree (I can send you the study). The baffling part? There is very little training dedicated to helping solve this problem.

The stakes are HUGE. As a leader, our inability to let go and delegate effectively can cripple our businesses ability to grow and crush our team mates. The more I dig into this problem, the more excited I get about how much I can help others with this issue. Would your team benefit from hearing the straight goods about the common pitfalls and the critical steps to take to let go and delegate better?
I’d love to help!

My newest keynote speech, 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙤 𝙇𝙚𝙩 𝙂𝙤 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙎𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙖𝙩 𝙉𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩, tells the real life story of my embarrassing failures and ultimately, my joyful successes with how to delegate and trust my team.

Does this sound interesting to you?
If yes, then let’s talk about how I can help.

It was Jan. 8th, 2012 when the s**t hit the fan… 𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝟳𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. The first instinct was shock, disbelief, maybe even a little panic.

The next two weeks were excruciating before the tide started to shift. What transpired in the ensuing months would become transformative. Not only did my business recover but the methods I employed and tools I used would change my life forever.

The experience had such a profound impact on me, I felt compelled to write a book to share what I learned in hopes of helping others. In Relentless AF, I wanted to help leaders grow and prosper. Plus, when you are hit with your next crisis… and you will get hit with another crisis, I want you to be more prepared, armed with an arsenal of effective tools and methods that can help you succeed where others have failed. Most importantly, I want you to view crisis through a different filter. Maybe even to see crisis as the gift it can be.

Get your copy of Relentless AF today or better yet, gift it to another entrepreneur or leader that is hungry for growth, hungry for being prepared, hungry for being better than they were yesterday. If they are just hungry in general, get them a snack to go with it. They’ll love you forever 😉

𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴! 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝘂𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂….

But first, how would you describe your last company meeting?
Boring? Unproductive? Frustrating? Chaotic? A colossal waste of time?

If this describes your meetings, I’d love to help you. I can share one of the simplest, yet most powerful tools, that can transform your meetings. It’s called the L10 meeting. With a bit of practice, these will become so good, they will become your favourite meeting of the week.

This is not a false promise. Time and time again, my clients report how transformative the L10 meetings have been for them. This is because they are solving way more problems, staying focused and feeling productive.

…so, what am I going to ruin for you? Other meetings, that’s’ what. If they aren’t run with this format, you will want to stick a fork in your eye and beg others to learn the L10 meeting and stop wasting their (and your) time.

Check out this video with Gino Wickman describing how you can run a powerful L10 meeting for your team 👇
