Gasonic Group Ltd.

Gasonic Group Ltd. Smart Solutions for Healthier Buildings. Gasonic Instruments Inc. is Alberta's leader in poisonous g In 1985, Kae launched Gasonic Instruments Inc.

Our story begins in the early 1980s, when our founder, Kae Shummoogum, was working as a gas detection sales engineer. At that time, the carbon monoxide (CO) detection business had been growing for about 10 years, but the industry was still very much in its infancy. Whenever equipment service or calibration was required for installed CO detectors, sensor modules had to be sent back to the factory,

leaving site locations unmonitored for weeks at a time. Kae recognized that this posed great health and safety risks, and upon diligent investigation, he discovered on-site calibration was both possible and feasible through investing time in developing field calibration procedures. to provide mobile calibration services for CO detectors – a service which is still a large part of the work we still do today. In addition to mobile calibration, Kae searched for the best products available to supply to the commercial buildings market. Although exhaust gas monitors are still the most popular gas detectors within commercial buildings, there are significant requirements for ammonia, carbon dioxide, chlorine, Freons, nitrogen dioxide and many more toxic gases. During the late eighties, Gasonic conducted a comparative evaluation of several carbon monoxide sensor technologies. The data showed clearly that using a certain type of CO sensor resulted in more accurate and stable detection , which in turn eliminated false alarms and require less calibration This striking revelation spurred many building owners to upgrade to this new model of CO detector. While Gasonic’s competitors were reluctant to introduce technology that would reduce their service department billings, Gasonic forged ahead, saving its clients millions of dollars in wasted energy, and winning the trust of many building owners. During the last few years Gasonic has taken a holistic approach to the commercial gas monitoring business. We have re-branded the company to reflect the current reality of business today. We want to provide our customers with more reliable equipment that requires less maintenance while considering the sustainability of our choices. Energy efficiency is the best way for building owners to make an impact on costs and still have a positive impact on the environment. Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ) has to be balanced with energy efficiency to make our building healthier. Gasonic has access to the latest IEQ monitoring equipment from its rental division-EnviroRentals to evaluate the environment quality in your buildings. Today, Gasonic is proud to serve over one thousand buildings in Alberta, monitoring a dozen or more toxic gases in parkades, condominiums, office buildings, warehouses, industrial areas, and apartment buildings. We also have expanded upon our role in the community and are aiming to enhance public awareness of air quality and sustainability issues. We look forward to connecting with you, and making your inmosphere.

Proud to share a big milestone — my book Invisible Threat: Understanding Air Quality in Buildings is finally printed! 📘✨

The idea for this book was sparked five years ago after a visit to London in 2019. I came across the heartbreaking story of Ella, a young girl who became the first person in the world to have “air pollution” listed on her death certificate. Her story moved me deeply.

Having studied in London and spent the last 40 years monitoring indoor air quality, I felt compelled to write this book. Invisible Threat is about making the unseen dangers of air pollution visible—and about ensuring clean, healthy air for everyone, both inside and outside our buildings.

Thank you to the team at Certified Industrial Hygiene Consulting and Gasonic not only sharing office space but air monitoring techniques for the research behind the book.

A great teaching moment with an Engineering Student!

Today, Graham Xu, a bright young electrical engineering student from the University of Waterloo, stopped by our office driving his parents’ Tesla, eager to try out our free solar charging station.
It was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate real-world sustainability in action. Together, we explored how just six solar panels installed at our office generate enough electricity to power the average daily commute in Calgary.
I graduated from Electronics Engineering 45 years ago and it was exciting for me to see the next generation embracing clean energy solutions. The future is electric.

Protecting Our Communities from Invisible Dangers 🚨

Today, I met with the operations team at the Rockyford Arena following last weekend's alarming incident where a dozen children were hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

To ensure the arena can reopen safely this weekend, we've equipped them with our demo CO monitoring system and two portable monitors. These tools will provide immediate protection while they conduct tests to identify the best locations for permanent CO detectors.

Carbon monoxide is a silent, invisible threat—but with the right technology, we can prevent incidents like this and keep our spaces safe. 💨⚠️

I relish my E-Bike adventures more than cruising in my Tesla S. My company supported this eco-friendly ride organised by Calgary Climate Hub to combat climate change, and I'm all in for clean air. Growing up on the picturesque island of Mauritius, I had a bike that took me everywhere - school and beach camping included. Kudos to Adrian for capturing the essence of my journey. Stay tuned for more exciting videos from Adrian to introduce the Canary Climate Conversation Association.

Won the Eco-initiative Award at the CRRA Awards Gala last night. I was nominated by another Eco-champion and good friend - Adrian Bollard. It was great to be recognized for my environmental initiatives but the most important recognition is to lead others to start the journey. Met a customer yesterday and he quickly pointed to his hybrid car as a result of our discussion 5 years ago and he has ordered a PHEV.
On a day that the pollution level was really high. PM2.5 was a 100 times normal it is critical that we stop questioning the science and implement solutions to clean our air and reduce our CO2 emissions. I will be announcing several new eco-initiatives in the coming week.

The mobile classroom is ready!
After some major challenges the car is parked inside the Calgary Municipal Building for the Mayor’s Environmental Expo over the next couple of days.
I have worked for a year developing a new way to teach kids about Climate Change. It will all be reveal tomorrow to school kids. The last week I have been working closely with ChatGPT to come up with powerful words. It has been my best employee. I realised the power of artificial intelligence on our society. We need regulations.
