This is currently my least favourite Momcozy.

While it was the first to enter the bluetooth game, that’s no longer the case.

It has 9 parts that are challenging to assemble, prone to damage, and specific to Momcozy, which hasn’t traditionally offered long-term replacement parts. So, if this is a pump you want to use, consider buying extra silicone parts while they’re available.

The tunnel also doesn’t allow for other brands inserts, so you’re limited to the sizes they offer. And we should all know by now that fl**ge fit is everything.

If you don’t mind a frustrating assembly, are willing to purchase extra parts, and fit their 17, 19, or 21 mm inserts, this pump might be okay for you. It does after all have a wide range of settings that allow you to find what your body responds to best.

What should you purchase instead?

If you want a Momcozy and budget is a consideration, go for the M5 Smart.

If you’re willing to spend a bit more, get the Air 1. It does everything better.

If you want a pump with replaceable parts that are easy to find, and a pump that is compatible with other brands, go for the Eufy S1.

Did you know you can support your babies growth with additional calories by adding this trick to your pumping routine?

Hands on pumping helps loosen up and remove fat in your breasts.

Use the entirety of both your hands to support either side of your breasts, making sure to get up into the armpit and under the breast.

This is especially helpful if you’re engorged to help you empty if you weren’t already pumping this way. Just make sure you are being gentle. Using your entire hand helps you stay gentle and prevent damage that could be caused from massaging aggressively with your thumb. This is suppose to be gentle widespread compression and stroking.

It’s also a great tool to help you empty when you don’t yet have the right fl**ge fit (most people are a 13-15).

Pumping time can vary significantly depending on your set up and how you use your pump.

While 15-20 minutes is an average this can vary.

You will empty faster if
✨you use a primary pump with traditional fl**ges
✨your fl**ge size and shape fit (most are 13-15)
✨your using the highest comfortable suction
✨you cycle through multiple stimulations/let downs
✨you perform hands on pumping with a pumping bra

Here’s why these things speed up pumping
✨Secondary pump motors don’t hold up
✨Hands free cups prevent visualization of the ni**le and ensure it’s centred, and they take up so much real estate that they prevent you from being able perform hands on pumping effectively
✨Let downs are about every 7 minutes. Pumping once your flow slows down without stimulating additional let downs leaves milk behind. 30 minutes is not better than 15 min if you don’t cycle through more let downs

So how do you know when you’re done?

When you go back to another stimulation mode and it doesn’t cause your flow to increase AND your breasts feel softer than when you started you’re done. Just make sure it’s not longer than 30 minutes because I promise you will get sore, and we need all the time away from the pump we can get.

I bet you didn’t know this about burping.

Breastfed baby’s for the most part don’t have to burp. After all there no air in your breast. As long as they’re not popping on and off or spitting up or fussing after a feed until they finally burp, then I don’t want you to stress over burping or not being able to burp them.

This is one of those times when I really wish I had a magic wand.

Feeding your baby when you have insufficient glandular tissue (IGT) is often one of those situations where I find my hands tied.

Our breast tissue develops over an entire lifetime, and unfortunately, it’s not possible for us to undo anatomy. But that doesn’t mean there is nothing we can do.

We can optimize what you do have.

A prenatal consult allows us to look at your breast anatomy, talk about what the shape and appearance of your breasts may mean for milk production, and make a plan before your baby arrives.

We can talk about strategies to support a deep, effective latch and frequent milk removal. We can discuss medications to consider during pregnancy and postpartum. And, most importantly, we can check in at those critical postpartum points in time to make sure your milk is coming in, your baby is getting enough to eat.

Because first and foremost, baby needs to be fed.

I so desperately want you to have the breastfeeding experience you envisioned. It absolutely breaks my heart every time I work with a mom with IGT.

Sometimes, despite everything we do, anatomy puts a limit on milk production. And my job is to help you understand that limit, optimize your supply as much as possible, and make sure your baby is thriving along the way.

This is one of the reasons I believe prenatal feeding consults are so important. IGT is rarely something you doctor likely will not mention to you before baby arrives. You deserve to know what your breast anatomy may mean for feeding and to have a plan before you’re exhausted, recovering from birth, and trying to figure it out in the middle of the night.

If you’ve caught yourself saying this before, you’re in the right place.

Pumping isn’t just about using what came in the box and turning it on. It’s extremely nuanced and should be personalized.

In order for pumping to “work for you” you need to ensure you are using
✨The right pump for you
✨The right fl**ge size + shape
✨Hands-on pumping technique with a bra
✨Cycling through stimulation mode multiple times

Picking a pump can be beyond overwhelming.

If you’ve already narrowed your search down to a wearable, that likely means:
✨You have an established, full milk supply
✨You need something for occasional use or on-the-go pumping
✨You dread being stuck in one place to pump so much that it’s making you want to quit
✨You need a hands-free option because you have multiples or other children
✨You need something portable to help you achieve additional sessions on top of your primary pump

But narrowing down the wearable options?

That’s a whole other ball game.

There are so many brands, features, price points, and claims that it can feel impossible to know what actually matters.

Start by answering some of these questions

The bottle industry wants you to believe their bottle will reduce colic, is “just like the breast,” and that your baby needs a bigger, faster-flow ni**le as they get older.

But the truth is, that’s all just marketing.

If you chose this 1st option above, you found the lie.

No specific bottle has been shown to reduce colic. We don’t even have a clear, universally accepted definition or cause of colic.

If you want to potentially reduce fussiness associated with bottle feeding, it’s less about the bottle and more about HOW you bottle.

Bottling to reduce discomfort requires
✨Pacing: With them in a side-lying position, keep the ni**le filled with milk when they suck, then tip it to empty to allow them to pause, rather than this ni**le half full of milk business (cut guess what, the other half is air they swallow)
✨Use an appropriate flow ni**le: Your baby shouldn’t be chugging their bottle. Not less than 10 or longer than 30 minutes on average.

If it’s too slow, they won’t get through their volumes, may grow frustrated, and the ni**le will be squished when it comes out of their mouth.

If it’s too fast, they may appear panicked, pulling away, choking, or have milk leaking around their mouth.

So instead of going up in flow rate as they age, watch for these signs. And before you increase in flow rate, try loosening the collar.

And finally, let’s talk about “slow flow”.

Slow flow is another marketing term, not a universal measurement.

Ni**le flow rates vary dramatically so don’t assume that a ni**le labelled “slow flow” is actually slow. For examples Medela’s Calma ni**le is marketed as slow flow and has NO business being around any baby of any age.
