This Pride season, ViTreo stands with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities across Canada in celebration and in genuine commitment to a sector that reflects the full range of who we are and who we serve.

Inclusive fundraising is a values statement. When donors, leaders, and communities feel truly seen; when their stories are honoured rather than acknowledged in passing, that's when philanthropy does its most meaningful work.

The non-profit sector has a real opportunity to lead here, and to ask:
๐Ÿ”ดWhose voices are shaping our campaigns?
๐ŸŸ Whose experiences are informing our donor relationships?
๐ŸŸกWho feels like they belong in our organizations, and who doesn't yet?
๐ŸŸขWhere in our fundraising practices do we feel most confident about inclusion and where do we still have work to do?
๐Ÿ”ตWho in our community isn't at the table yet, and what would it take to change that?
๐ŸŸฃWhat does "feeling truly seen" actually look like in our donor relationships?

Equity in giving creates impact that lasts, and it starts with the willingness to keep asking better questions.

Happy Pride ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ from all of us at ViTreo.

The future of giving is strategic, and the numbers are staggering.

Global philanthropic flows now exceed $1 trillion annually, which is more than triple the world's combined humanitarian and development aid. And a growing share of that capital is funding early-stage research, scientific breakthroughs, and long-horizon innovation that no other capital will touch - rather than toward traditional charity.

As Badr Jafar put it in a recent article in the Khaleej Times: "At its best, philanthropy doesn't just respond to crises. It helps shape the systems that prevent them."

This shift, from reactive to generative giving, signals a pivotal opportunity for non-profits: donors are increasingly asking harder questions about strategy, accountability, and measurable outcomes. The organizations that can answer those questions confidently are the ones that will attract this growing wave of intentional investment.

At ViTreo, this is what we help non-profit leaders prepare for. Because fundraising leadership isn't only about raising dollars, it's about building the credibility and clarity that strategic philanthropists are looking for.

"I can't believe how much changed from something so small."

We hear this from clients often.

After years working alongside non-profit leaders, we've come to know that meaningful transformation rarely requires a complete overhaul. More often, it starts with a willingness to pause and to take an honest look at how things are working inside your organization, and be willing to make a small, intentional shift.

Recently, two of our associates facilitated a session with the full staff team of a non-profit client. The topic was simple: what is philanthropy, and what does it mean for the organization?

For some, it was the first time they'd thought about fundraising as something that belongs to the whole organization, not just one corner of it. As the conversation unfolded, you could see people connecting the concept to their own roles in real time; recognizing the part they play, understanding the impact that funding makes possible for the work they do every day.

It was one conversation, a shared understanding, and it set an entire team up to work differently. That's the power of a small, intentional shift.

If something in your fundraising or leadership approach just isn't quite working, you might be closer to a breakthrough than you think. Sometimes all it takes is the right conversation.

We'd love to help you find yours. ๐Ÿ‘‰ vitreogroup.ca

In honour of the , we are featuring stories of our team members and the passion they put into the causes that mean so much to them.

First up is Associate, Hillary Rideout.

"Eight years ago, I lost two dogs in a short span of time. Anyone who's loved a dog knows that kind of grief is real and it's deep. I wasn't ready to open my heart to a new dog just yet, but I desperately missed having them in my life.

I spotted a "help wanted" post from BARC's Rescue, a Calgary-based dog rescue, looking for someone with design and marketing skills to put together a monthly newsletter. That felt like something I could do.

So I raised my hand. And I never looked back. Every single month for the past five years, I've produced that newsletter, no exceptions. I also contribute to BARC's social media team and I show up at adoption events to wrangle dogs, chat with potential fosters and adopters, and take shelter pups out for walks so they can get a break from kennel life.

What I love most is that I got to take skills I was already building, and put them to work for something that genuinely matters: helping homeless dogs find their forever homes. The side benefit: I am never short on dog snuggles.

My favourite part of the story is at my very first BARC's event - I was only there to take photos for social media, nothing more - we went home with a dog to foster. We adopted her about five minutes after that. Roxy is almost six years old now, and she is, without question, the love of all our lives.

Since then, we've fostered two more dogs, helping them make the journey from street life to safe home, and ultimately into the arms of forever families. I won't lie, I always consider keeping them, and I always cry when they leave, but there's nothing quite like watching them walk out the door into a family who will love them forever.

This is my passion. This is my purpose."

Happy International Year of Volunteering to every person showing up for a cause they love.

AI can't replace relationships. And in fundraising, relationships are everything.

But for small nonprofits managing a large prospect list with a small team? AI can be the tool that frees you up to actually build them.

Here's how:

๐Ÿ”ต Clean up your donor data so nothing important slips through
๐Ÿ”ต Surface prospects that have been quietly overlooked
๐Ÿ”ต Rank your list so you know exactly where to start
๐Ÿ”ต Create capacity to invest in real, human connection

As ViTreo's Kathy Bhana puts it: "This has led to more personalized and effective donor engagement. One donor identified made an online gift of $5,000 following an initial outreach."

AI clears the pathway. Your people walk it.

Curious how this could work for your organization? We'd love to connect.

AI is showing up in every sector and non-profit fundraising is no exception.

But with new tools come real questions: How do we continue to build trust with our supporters? How do we protect our donors? How do we stay true to our mission?

Here's what we always come back to at ViTreo:
โœ… Know your responsibilities and protect donor data
โœ… Be transparent with your donors and your team
โœ… Use AI to enhance your voice, not replace it
โœ… Keep human judgment at the centre of every decision

Technology changes but the values that make great fundraising work (trust, relationships, authentic storytelling) don't.

If your organization is exploring how to responsibly integrate AI into your fundraising practice, we're here to help you think it through.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What questions are coming up for your team around AI? We'd love to hear from you.

These conversations matter. Reach out! We can help you develop your skills and policies.
