Reports are due Sept 29, 2026 and more information can be found at: https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/managing-reducing-waste/reduce-plastic-waste/federal-plastics-registry.html

For those who don't know Canada deemed all Plastic Manufactured items as "Toxic" and thus have enacted this registry forcing the entire plastics value chain (including all IC&I companies/facilities in Canada) to report on its plastics use, import, manufacture, consumption and waste.

Organizations obligated to report:
1. Manufacturers and importers of plastic resins: Those who manufacture or import plastic resins and place them on the market in Canada
2. Producers of plastic products: Those who import, manufacture, and place plastic packaging or plastic products on the market in Canada. This can include brand owners, importers, manufacturers, retailers, marketplace facilitators or sellers
3. Generators of plastic waste at an industrial, commercial or institutional (ICI) facility: Those who generate plastic packaging and product waste at (ICI) facilities
4. Service providers in plastic management: Those who manage plastics via the following activities:
-Collecting or hauling
-Arranging for direct reuse
-Refurbishing
-Repairing
-Remanufacturing
-Mechanical recycling
-Chemical recycling
-Processing into chemicals, including fuels
-Composting
-Incineration with energy recovery
-Incineration for industrial processes
-Incineration without energy recovery
-Landfilling

Organizations must report:
1. The category and subcategory of packaging or plastic products
2. The resin type in packaging or plastic products
3. The resin source in packaging or plastic products
4. Quantity of each resin in packaging or plastic products in kilograms (kg)
5. Calculation methods

Exceptions - Some individuals are exempt from reporting:
-Small producers and importers: Those who manufacture, import, or place less than 1000 kg of plastic products or packaging on the market per calendar year
-Small waste generators: Those who generate less than 1000 kg of packaging and plastic product waste at their ICI facilities per calendar year
-Small waste managers: Service providers who manage less than 1000 kg of plastic via activities like collecting, recycling, or disposal per calendar year

Last week PVC played a key role in helping Special Olympics Illinois raise over $450000.00 at their annual duck race.

The birthplace of the Global Special Olympics movement, Special Olympics Illinois helps to unleash the human spirit through the transformative power and joy of sport, every day around the world.

Special Olympics Illinois provides year- round opportunities in
sports, leadership, and health, building a more inclusive world alongside people with personal and intellectual disabilities.

After the race all the ducks are collected and used in other duck race fundraising events around North America.

We at Norwich Plastics can help recycle these PVC ducks at end of life/end of use and your PVC toys, inflatables, and even your PVC yoga ball and mat.

Years ago we used to say "plastics make it possible".

Now due to several factors including over consumption, lack of end of life waste handling/recycling infrastructure, and the need for preservation and packaging of goods, we have demonized plastics; not remembering that our built environments, food, health, energy, entertainment and recreational systems are all built with plastics.

These low cost functional polymers, thermosets and monomers increase accessibility to the very systems we depend on each day; creating the base of the standard of living and standard of lifestyle we enjoy today.

Let's continue to use polymers safely, where and when they are the best choice of material for the cost and application.

Plastics are a foundational material found in homes, vehicles, hospitals, food systems, and many critical infrastructures. They are the backbone of multiple Canadian industries including defense, aerospace, automotive, mining, renewable energy, medical, and pharmaceuticals.

Plastics support our modern way of life in many ways including:

Food Systems & Packaging - Materials that protect food and extend shelf life

Housing & Construction - Insulation, pipes, wiring and building materials

Automotive - Vehicle components, safety systems and electronics

Healthcare - Sterile medical devices and diagnostic equipment

Natural Resources - Industrial piping, safety equipment and infrastructure

While recyclers and EHS staff across industries work diligently to recycle as much as possible, lower carbon footprint, decrease energy consumption, and eliminate waste for the lowest cost; the bureaucracy undermines our efforts with countless conferences and meetings.

Seems to me that sustainability conferences may have become the newest governmental, NGO, and regulatory grift doing more damage than the public realizes.

Just another example of governments, academia, and NGO's "Do as I say, not as I do." attitude towards the environment, the public, and the policy they create

Here is the latest German study on Microplastics.

Conclusion: Current evidence does not permit any definitive conclusion about the effects of microplastics on health. The information presented here may help physicians counsel their patients on this matter.

Microplastics, a mixture of various small plastic particles, are a ubiquitously present environmental contaminant. In most studies, particles ranging in size from 5 mm to 1 µm are classified as microplastics, although there is no universally accepted...
