Mastering Part 11 - Renovations in the OBC
Join us live in person or online - February 10th, 2026

Renovations rarely fit neatly into the Ontario Building Code. You are dealing with existing conditions, partial upgrades, legacy construction, and competing compliance paths, all while trying to answer one question. What actually applies here?

Part 11 is meant to provide flexibility for existing buildings, but that flexibility often creates confusion. Misclassification, incorrect performance levels, or missed compensating construction can quickly turn a straightforward renovation into a difficult file.

This course is designed to slow Part 11 down and make it practical. Instead of memorizing clauses, we focus on how decisions are made, how obligations are triggered, and how to confidently support your conclusions.

Don't miss out. It's your last chance to register!

A routine inspection can quickly turn into a safety concern, and suddenly you’re deciding whether an Unsafe or Emergency Order is the right call.

These situations carry real consequences, and do not come up often enough to feel routine.

Our Unsafe and Emergency Orders course focuses on how orders work in practice. We cover unsafe buildings, emergency orders, power of entry, and real-world scenarios drawn from municipal experience.

We've got a course scheduled next week and for a limited time you can add a second course when you register and receive 30% off both!

Applicable law is often seen as a delay in the permit process. In reality, it’s the framework that connects building permits to planning controls, environmental protection, source water safety, and land use policy across Ontario.

In this article, we break down:
• What applicable law actually means under the Building Code Act
• Why it applies even when a project meets the Building Code
• How it affects new construction, conditional permits, and change of use
• What building departments can do to manage it more clearly and consistently

Whether you work in a building department or submit permit applications regularly, understanding applicable law makes the entire process smoother for everyone involved.

Understand applicable law in Ontario’s building permit process, why it matters, and how building officials manage approvals before issuing permits.

Some of the most valuable learning in the building industry comes from conversation.

The Let’s Talk About… Technical Webinar Series was created to support those conversations. What began during the pandemic as a way to stay connected has grown into a bi-weekly learning community of building professionals from across Ontario.

Every two weeks, municipal building officials, designers, engineers, and architects come together for one-hour sessions focused on real building code issues. It follows a simple format with relevant topics, open discussion, and practical takeaways.

Over the years, the series has grown into a community that we are truly proud of. The 2026 series starts soon, and we hope you'll be a part of it. Come see why so many return year after year!

The video below explains how the series works and why it continues to matter.

We are closing in on the finish line for the "Let's Talk About..." 2025 Technical Webinar Series, and as we build the final two sessions, it feels like the right moment to look back on the year.

This year was different for us.

We introduced sixteen brand new webinars, all shaped by the real issues and hot topics we continue to see in the field. It pushed us technically and creatively, and we learned a lot in the process.

It was a big lift for our team (especially Laura Elliott, thank you Laura!), but the conversations, the questions, and the familiar names showing up every two weeks made every bit of work worth it.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported us, and helped make this our strongest season yet. We are proud of this community and committed to giving you the highest quality of content that we can.

We would love to hear from you...

And one more question for whoever is willing to share:
What topics should we explore in future webinars?
