Congratulations to business leader and volunteer Kristen Danson for taking home the Community Impact Award at our recent Business Excellence Awards. A long-time successful business leader and non-profit champion, Kristen found herself at Rier Industries Ltd. to assist its owner, Sheldon Rier, with a short-term project in the late 1990s.
This turned into a successful long-term business relationship, eventually leading her to become managing partner when Rier Industries transformed into Mito Graphics/Swift Components Corporation and became a trusted player in the automotive sector. But it was helping those facing food insecurities by volunteering for the Cambridge Food Bank, which really struck a chord. While at the Food Bank, she has served in many capacities including as Board President and now Past President.
Thanks to her efforts, the food bank – which last year supported more than 10,000 individuals across over 4,500 households - is now scheduled to move into its new 31,000 square foot home on Franklin Boulevard early next year. Kristen also remains a champion for businesses and has been a dedicated cheerleader for the Cambridge Chamber by serving on the board for just over a decade, including as Board Chair from 2022 to 2024.

Congratulations to Mariah Castro, formerly of Greg Vann Nissan for receiving the WOWCambridge Customer Service Award at our recent Business Excellence Awards.
A gentleman, who due to a variety of unfortunate circumstances had found himself living in his car for more than year, along with his 18-year-old Yorkie, lost his keys and attended the car dealership, hoping they could help.
Mariah jumped into action to help the man by not only providing him access to a computer but purchasing food for him and his dog, ensuring they were both well looked after.
Unfortunately, he was unable to find replacement keys at that time, but he remained grateful for the several hours he spent with our recipient and the extreme empathy she showed him in the middle of her busy workday. He wrote to her: “Thank you for being the light to my darkness and showing me there is still hope in this world.”
