Fabrik Symposium | Earlier this week

A pause within practice.

We gathered to review the work, test ideas, discuss direction, and define the next phase of the office together. Part workshop, part reflection, part celebration—the symposium creates space for alignment beyond the pace of daily production.

Communication. Critique. Planning. Progress.

A practice is shaped not only by projects, but by the conversations behind them.

We use high-precision 3D laser scanning not only to document what exists, but to understand what might become a challenge—informing design decisions from the outset.

A point cloud is more than geometry.

It is a precise record of a building as it stands.
Careful observation remains the first act of architecture.

We’re excited to welcome Kate Cummings to the team as our co-op student at Fabrik Architects.

A third-year student at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture , Kate will spend eight months with us before heading to Rome for the School’s Rome Program—an important part of the Waterloo architecture curriculum.

Beyond her work in the firm, Kate is one of the designers of BLOOM, an installation selected for presentation at The Forum at Fabrik .forum.at.fabrik this June. She will also be one of the leaders of the Forum’s Summer Discovery Program this July, supporting young designers as they explore architecture and creativity.

BRINK’s Canada Headquarters Renovation | 2023

BRINK’s Renovation is a commercial interior renovation that redefines spatial potential within a fortified, windowless bank bunker, transforming it into a collaborative workspace for Brinks Canada’s national headquarters.

This adaptive reuse project employs skylights and innovative lighting strategies to introduce natural light into a previously enclosed environment. The design achieves a high-performance, secure workspace that embodies Brinks Canada’s renewed corporate identity while promoting a healthy and productive workplace culture.

Midway through construction, unforeseen challenges arose; cracked flooring and a concealed underground cavity revealed significant structural concerns. In close collaboration with consultants and contractors, safety was prioritized as we rigorously navigated critical on-site decisions to ensure project integrity.

These challenges necessitated a shift in project vision. Working within a revised scope and budget, the team embraced adaptive design thinking, making strategic and resourceful decisions to maintain alignment with the original design intent.

The role of the architect extends beyond creating aesthetically compelling spaces; it requires addressing complex challenges and transforming constraints into meaningful design opportunities.

YMCA Camp Ki-Wa-Y | 2025

A renovation that reimagines a simple structure into a children’s bathroom facility for summer camp. Nestled in nature and embracing the outdoors, the design offers comfort and shelter while enriching the experience of summer exploration. It’s a space where utility meets curiosity, and design supports early discovery.

The project is currently under construction. Stay tuned for the final reveal!
