Today, we remember.

On September 11, 2001, 343 firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice while serving others. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness continue to inspire firefighters around the world.

The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb gives us an opportunity to honour those 343 individuals, one step at a time. Each step represents a name, a life, a family, and a story that must never be forgotten.

For us at Comox Fire Rescue, it is a privilege to take part in this meaningful event alongside fellow firefighters and first responders. We climb in remembrance, in solidarity, and with gratitude for those who ran toward danger when others were trying to escape.

We remember the 343. We honour their sacrifice. We will never forget.

We are in the final few days to accept applications for this year's Island Ignite 2026 camp! This year we are excited to align with Esquimalt Fire, Victoria Fire, and CFB Esquimalt Fire to help run this three day, immersive fire and emergency service experience for young women in grades 11 & 12.

Our program aims to provide a minimal barriers to participation and rely on regional departments to sponsor youth participation at camp. Apply by January 31, 2026, to receive $500 towards wildfire preparedness through the FireSmart Canada Wildfire Community Preparedness Day Award.

Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is a national campaign that encourages homeowners to take action to increase their home, neighbourhood, and community’s resilience to wildfire.

Wildfire Community Preparedness Day occurs on the first Saturday in May and in 2026, it will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Groups can apply for a $500 award to fund their Wildfire Community Preparedness Day activities. Last year, FireSmart Canada awarded more recipients than ever before with 404 neighbourhoods.
