Summer has been a whirlwind of outdoor exploration and water play and indoor parties and free play. Here are bunch of what our summer time looked like! We had lots of fun outdoors in the forest, plenty of water play and various forms of painting, lots of little celebrations, and so much quality friend time!

Enjoy the little update, and get ready for some fall fun as we move into new schedules and routines for the year!

My boys were laughing at the exercises they had seen me doing before daycare this morning, and they decided to reenact them and teach the other kids. It was quite humorous, especially when my oldest said it was some kind of weird dance I was doing. 😳 Yes, that would have been a weird dance for me.

Learning how to give thumbs up. It’s great having just as many teachers in the classroom as we have learners. Everybody has something to teach and/or learn. It’s a beautiful stage to be in.

Lots of fun exploring and finding new growth in the forest. New explorers curious about the paths we walk on, and advanced explorers investigating a new mushroom that had grown on the stump.

This is a beautiful life we live.

Finger painting is one of those experiences that offers very solid learning for children and educators. It’s always interesting to me to observe the children as they discover this new sensory, and decide whether or not they enjoy it. One of my daycare children who had been very uninterested in the texture of paint the first time we tried it together at daycare is now fully interested in mixing colours and creating pictures. Some children love the feeling from the first time they experience it, some grow to love it, and some remain uninterested. It’s always intriguing for me to see those different personalities and interests as we move through various activities.

Thank you to all of my families for your extra patience while I was away. I am happy to be back, and so ready to welcome the kiddos back into the house for some smiles, fun, and play. I’m looking forward to seeing you all, and in the meantime here are some pictures of our play from the days before our time away.

This week we learned about spruce tips, as we explored the variety of bright new greenery in the woods. We found lots of spruce tips and learned about the many ways we can add spruce tips to our diet. Did you know that they have a citrusy flavour and are loaded with vitamin C and they also aid our bodies in tissue regeneration? We picked a bunch and tasted some, and then posed with one of the trees that we foraged from.

We also got a close view of the decinstruction happening at the sportsplex, and were inspired with conversations about building, fixing, working together, and problem solving.

Exploring our world, asking questions and researching answers together helps to establish a love for learning and lays the foundation that is needed for problem solving and researching.

Stay tuned, as will be able to use our collected spruce tips this week to cook up something interesting, refreshing, and hopefully delicious!

We had a full day yesterday. Some of our highlights included finding a snake during our outside play, writing some get well soon cards for one of our friends, making patterns with math cubes, pretending to be pirates and making pirate jokes, and trying out a new food during snack: Antipasto. We are looking forward to more exploring the rest of our week, and continuing to practice our interests in number and letter recognition.

A pirate joke from yesterday:

Person 1: “What do you think a Pirate’s favourite letter is?”

Person 2: “Rrrrr”

Person 1: “Aye, you’d think that, but it’s actually the C.”

We spent much of our week enjoying various types of water play. We explored puddles and rain, outdoor water play in the rain, and experienced the soothing, unique, and interesting sensory play of water beads. Lots of these types of play included words such as : fill, pour, count, add, explore; and inspired conversations around texture, product ingredients, making and creating, and much more. These types of conversations and words help to build the early understandings of mathematic and scientific principles and terms.

We are loving our farm animals and dramatic play these days. Lots of building and team playing, as well as parallel play. We have been building farms, playing hide and seek with the animals, and taking turns using the animal washing station.

Pajama day was a blast, though somehow even though we were dressed for it, we didn’t find time to rest. We had so much fun exploring the new nugget addition and the reorganizing of the playroom that we just couldn’t stop playing. Aside from our need for nourishment, we were moving and playing.😆 It was a fun and wild day in this house.

Climbing, balancing, jumping, posing and playing pretend all make for a pretty fantastic day! We were pretending that there was hot lava chasing us today. We climbed away from it, balanced across logs over it, and hid behind the trees from it. Oh, we are thankful for this great location in nature ☀️

Spring is one day closer and we are feeling it. We have started to bring out our spring toys and materials, and we were so grateful to enjoy some sun, even if the days were partly cloudy. Getting in some variety chalk play with drawing, colouring, collecting, sorting, and even using the chalk as manipulative game pieces on this warm sunshine day. We even brought out our bubble machine for a game of chase and catch.
