Official notification is coming, but consider this an earl heads up.

North Island College will be offering a Wildfire Crew Member Training Program this spring.

Program commences February 21st, 2023 and runs for 4 weeks, (schedule unfinalized at time of writing)

Funding has been approved and applications are being accepted.

Please share this notice to any and all potential candidates.

Program is FULLY FUNDED, (no cost to participant).

Graduates of the program will have all required certifications to qualify for entry -level position on a wildland fire crew. Program also includes certificates such as Chainsaw Operator, First Aid, Globally Harmonized System, (WHMIS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Incident Command System.

"Anyone who works in forestry in British Columbia is aware of how the industry benefits all British Columbians, not just those living in rural communities, and not just those with forestry-related jobs.

The facts back up the opinions. According to a recent Council of Forest Industries (COFI) report, Contributing to a Better BC, the forestry sector provides as many as 100,000 good-paying jobs both directly and indirectly in communities throughout the BC, with nearly half of these jobs located in the Lower Mainland. Province-wide, the industry generates $8 billion in wages and benefits, and provides as much as $4 billion in government revenues to support healthcare, education, and more."
