Meet the Team: Kathy Arney, Founder and CEO (Chief Encouragement Officer) of KEA Canada!

Kathy doesn’t just advise nonprofits, she’s built her career walking beside them, helping them fund their mission, strengthen their team, and grow with confidence.

Kathy founded KEA Canada in 2013 with a mission to help organizations grow their capacity, improve results, and enable people to reach their full potential.

An expert in fund development, capacity-building, campaigns, strategy, and operations, she brings a unique blend of business leadership and two decades in philanthropy.

Kathy works across resource development, strategic planning, board development, campaign planning, coaching, and interim leadership.

Her career includes leadership roles with some of Canada’s most respected institutions, plus consulting for universities, arts organizations, community groups, and the health sector.

She currently serves as Board Chair for the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAPG/ACPDP).

The book follows Alex, a mission-driven nonprofit leader navigating budgets, reserves, and fundraising pressure for the first time. The book is less of a finance textbook and more of a companion for the journey from fear to confidence, and from reacting to leading.

Alongside the book, you’ll also get access to discussion guides, downloadable tools, and facilitator guides.

It’s an honour to be back in your feed! We hope you had a great summer, whether it was full of travel, time outdoors, or a chance to slow down. ✨

With fall upon us, we're looking forward to getting back into a routine and getting grounded again. As you settle back in, we'd like to share a few things we’ve been working on this summer.

This summer, KEA Canada founder Kathy Arney finally crossed something off her bucket list: a six-day horseback trip into the mountains with her husband Paul and a few close friends. The trip was almost a year in the making and her way of marking a milestone birthday. 🐎

An hour into the ride, they lost all cell connections. They stayed off the grid for six full days. No politics, no social media, no reaching for a phone to settle a debate, just conversations without interruption and a lot of open sky. Such a gift!

It's a reminder that fully disconnecting is almost impossible unless you plan for it. So here’s Kathy's nudge as we head into fall: give yourself that gift when you can. Your mind, soul, and energy will thank you.
