HERE WE GO!

Take-In is underway for the 63rd Development Year at the Douglas Bull & Female Development Center!

Bulls and heifers started arriving this weekend and we’ve been busy getting them processed and settled in for the season ahead.

There’s always something exciting about this time of year. New cattle coming through the gates, familiar faces returning, new consignors joining us, and another development season taking shape.

We’re looking forward to seeing this year’s group come together and watching them develop over the months ahead.

Here’s to the start of #63. Here we go!

Still on the fence about joining us this year? It’s not too late! There’s still time to get your entries in and be part of the 63rd Development Year.

A friendly reminder to our consignors that cattle will be received during these dates only. Cattle cannot be received before October 3 or after October 10.

Are you 25 or under and building your own purebred herd?

As we get ready for another development year at the Douglas Bull & Female Development Center, we wanted to share a reminder about our Youth Incentive Program.

Young producers aged 25 and under who consign cattle registered in their own name receive a 5% discount on sale commission.

Whether you’re just getting started with a few purebred cattle or working to grow an established herd, the Station offers an opportunity to develop, evaluate and market your cattle alongside breeders from across Canada.

There’s still time to get involved in this year’s program.

A friendly reminder as we head into the weekend!

We’re getting close to our September 15th target for entries for the 63rd Development Year at the Douglas Bull & Female Development Center.

With our new management team, Kyle Byczkowski and Brooklyn Hedley, officially starting September 14th, we’re looking forward to getting another development year underway and welcoming this year’s cattle to the Station.

If you’ve been considering consigning, now is a great time to get your entry form in. Returning consignors and new consignors are both welcome, and we’re happy to answer any questions you may have about the program.

We’re pleased to introduce Kyle Byczkowski and Brooklyn Hedley, the new management team at the Douglas Bull & Female Development Center!

Kyle brings several years of hands-on feedlot experience, with a strong background in cattle care, cattle health and equipment. Brooklyn brings experience in beef production, agricultural technology and leadership, along with a lifelong involvement in the cattle industry.

Together, they bring a great combination of practical cattle experience, agricultural knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for the beef industry. They’re looking forward to getting to know our consignors, building those relationships and becoming part of the Station.

To help make the transition as smooth as possible, Tracy will continue working alongside Kyle and Brooklyn over the next few months, both in person and remotely, sharing her knowledge of the Station and helping provide continuity throughout the transition.

We’re excited for this next chapter and look forward to having Kyle and Brooklyn on board.

A little Friday throwback…

We came across this old aerial photo of the Station, taken on what certainly looks like a busy sale day!

It’s interesting to look closely and see just how much has changed over the years. Even the layout of the pens looks quite different from what we know today.

There are a lot of cattle, consignors, buyers and memories wrapped up in the history of this place.

Does anyone remember the Station looking like this? Better yet, can anyone help us put a year to this photo?

The Station Through the Years

Some of the best stories aren't told. They're discovered.

This week as we looked through old binders, handwritten notes, photographs, and decades of Station records, we were reminded of just how much has changed.

For more than six decades, the Douglas Bull & Female Development Center has been part of the stories of countless breeders across Canada.

These old weigh reports, photographs, and records offer a glimpse into how the Station has documented the progress of cattle and supported breeders through the years.

Sale days have evolved. Technology has advanced. Facilities have changed.

Yet the purpose has remained remarkably consistent.

To provide meaningful performance information, create marketing opportunities for breeders, and bring people together around a shared passion for quality cattle.

Some things have changed.

The purpose hasn't.

Behind the Station | Coming Full Circle

Every Journey has a beginning.

For JK Angus , Jeremy and Kerry Pilkey, it began with the purchase of their first purebred Angus heifer from Harry Blankvoort of Newzalk Farm Ltd. through the Douglas Bull & Female Development Center.

As young producers with a small purebred herd, they later became consignors themselves, using the Station to compare their cattle alongside others of the same breed, collect valuable performance data, and establish the client base that would help grow their breeding program.

Looking back today, Jeremy reflects that without the Station, getting their name established would have been much more difficult.

That first heifer became the foundation for something much bigger.

It grew into years of consigning, lasting relationships, and an ongoing commitment to supporting the Development Center.

“As long as we have purebred cattle, we’ll support the Development Center.”

Today, Jeremy continues that commitment as President of the Douglas Bull & Female Development Center.

When asked what he’s most proud of, his answer wasn’t the cattle or the facilities.

It was the people.

“Everyone involved with the Station since I’ve been there has played a huge role and are great people through and through.”

Thank you, Jeremy and Kerry, for your years of support, leadership, and dedication to the Douglas Bull & Female Development Center. Your story is a reminder that sometimes a single opportunity can grow into a lifetime of commitment.

Over the past several weeks, we've shared stories from longtime consignors, new voices, and the next generation of breeders. Every story has been different, but they all started with a first entry.
