A pond can look perfectly healthy on the surface while oxygen is dropping underneath.

When the surface water warms up, it stays on top while the cooler water settles deeper. These layers do not mix easily, so less oxygen can reach the bottom.

At the same time, leaves, algae and muck continue breaking down below, using even more oxygen.

That can lead to:

- fish stress
- unpleasant odors
- slower muck breakdown
- unstable water conditions

So if your pond looks fine from above, that does not always mean everything is fine below.
