🚨 MOST UNWANTED: Dirty Recyclables 🚨

Think before you toss!

One of the biggest contaminants in the recycling stream is dirty recyclables. Items placed in your recycling bin should be clean and empty. That means no jars with food still inside, no containers full of leftovers, and no pizza boxes soaked with grease.

Why does it matter?

Food and liquid contamination can spread to other recyclables during collection and processing, reducing the quality of the material. In severe cases, contamination can cause an entire bale of recyclables to be rejected by manufacturers, sending valuable recyclable material to the landfill.

Before placing items in your recycling bin:
✅ Empty all food and liquids
✅ Give containers a quick rinse if needed
✅ Recycle only the clean portions of pizza boxes (greasy sections belong in the garbage)

A few extra seconds can help ensure your recyclables actually get recycled!

🚛♻️ Recycling Reminder ♻️🚛

To help ensure your recyclables are collected, please place all recyclable materials loose in your recycling wheelie bin.

❌ Recyclables placed in non-transparent bags will be assumed to be garbage and your bin may be flagged.

✅ The one exception is shredded paper, which may be placed in a clear plastic bag. Please ensure the bag contains only shredded paper and no other recyclable materials.

Keeping recyclables loose helps the sorting facility properly process materials and keeps valuable recyclables out of the landfill.

Thank you for doing your part to recycle right!

Most UNwanted: May Edition 🚫
Item: Yard Waste🌿

Yard waste is not recyclable. 🌱 Yard waste such as leaves, grass clippings, branches, and soil must be disposed of separately. But don’t worry, there are several eco-friendly ways to handle your yard waste! 🌍✨

Here are a few options:

1️⃣ Composting – Turn your yard waste into nutrient-rich compost for your garden!

2️⃣ Local Yard Waste Pickup – Many communities offer special curbside pickup for yard waste. Check with your local municipality for dates and guidelines.

3️⃣ Drop-Off Sites – Some areas have designated drop-off sites for yard waste. Check your municipality's website for more info!

4️⃣ Mulching – Use a mulching mower to chop grass clippings and leaves into small pieces that can be left on the lawn to decompose naturally.

By disposing of yard waste properly, we can help reduce landfill waste and promote healthier, greener communities. Thank you for your cooperation! ♻️💚

🚛🦺 Phil D. Bin Safety Minute 🦺🚛

We’re revisiting an important safety reminder about waste and recycling bins being placed on roadways. Recently, particularly in the area of Middlesex Centre, this has become an ongoing issue.

For the safety of residents, drivers, and other motorists, bins should not be placed on the roadway. Please ensure your bins are positioned properly off the road and in a safe, accessible location for collection.

If our drivers relocate a bin after collection to a different location than where it was originally placed, this is generally an indication that the bin was not positioned properly for safe collection.

Thank you for helping keep our communities safe and making collection smoother for everyone! ♻️
