The first crop of Flameproof Hanover is drawing rave reviews.

Saulsbrook Gunner showed his heels to his fellow trainees in a Breakfast With The Babies set on Saturday at Red Shores and word from Truro is that the most impressive c**t there in training is Flamin Freddy. As the breeder of both c**ts I am pleased with their progress but not surprised.

Earl Watts reports that all three of his Flameproofs are training well and another bred by Arnold Hagen, Redland Xtinguiser, also put in a good performance in his baby race.

If you are lucky enough to have a Flameproof Hanover two year old in training let us know how it is progressing.

It is third crop time and we have set a new fee of $1,000 for 2023 only.

At last - a filly born today is the first by Flameproof Hanover. Wayne Hubbard of Saint John, NB, is the winner of the free 2022 breeding to Flameproof Hanover. His guess of February 20th was the last guess standing with the filly keeping breeder Arnold Hagen waiting for 12 months and 4 days. She seems to be saying – “So I’m late, so what!”

Now it is Arnolds turn to pick a name from the many suggestions submitted. Wayne Hubbard suggested Redland Heatwave and perhaps could be the winner of dinner for four at Red Shores compliments of the Flameproof Hanover Syndicate. Any other suggestions out there ?

The countdown is on. No, it is not for Xmas or New Years but for the first foal by Flameproof Hanover to arrive. Ella Christina p.3,1:50.2 ($338,783) by Western Ideal, at Redland Farms, is due to foal January 19th based on the average gestation of 330 days. It is her first foal and she has no past foaling time to depend on so the typical range is 320-345 days.

What shall we name this special foal and when will it arrive? That is for you to suggest. Pick the closest day and time and you will win a free 2022 breeding to Flameproof Hanover worth $1,500 to use or to transfer. If your name suggestion is accepted you win dinner for four at the Top Of The Park restaurant at Red Shores on the final day of the 2021-2022 season on Saturday January 29th. Also on that day we will feature the Flameproof Hanover Pace and a special Pedigree Matching breeders seminar after the races to assist breeders with their stallion choices for 2022.

Post your suggestions here

My guess? Redland Hot Debut will be born January 25th at 10:30pm or perhaps I should call it Redland Cutitclose

Standardbred breeding in the Maritimes just got easier and more profitable. Introducing Flameproof Hanover, a stakes winning son of North America's top pacing sire, Captaintreacherous, to stand at stud on Prince Edward Island.

In 2020 we set out to breed the best mares to Flameproof Hanover based on pedigree. We ended up with 32 mares bred and every mare not only met the pedigree requirement but had a millionaire winner or sub 1:50 performer in the pedigree. Other stallion owners have an open door policy since they are more interested in financial gain than the success of the mating.

In 2022 we will continue with this strategy even if we have to turn away mares that we feel would be better bred to other sires as we recommended in the past year several times. Our interest is in improving the quality of Maritime bred yearlings. If you have a mare that has Abercrombie and No Nukes lines you may be eligible for "gold seal" status and a significant discount from the advertised fee and we also have discounts for multiple breedings.

As a pedigree consultant I am pleased to have many breeders as clients that have benefitted from my advice including Ed James, owner of HOY Mcwicked, 2018 NA breeder of the year Order By Stables, and Cricket Farm, breeders of Bar Hopping and a $500,000 yearling at Lexington this year. There are many small breeders who have had success.
