Life is Hard... Why Bother!?!?!?!?

What if:
👟 Nike only said "Maybe Do It"
🍎 Apple suggested to "Do what everyone else is doing."
🏃‍♂️ Adidas admitted that "It’s Pretty Hard To Accomplish Things"

At a very young age, my Dad taught me that the gift of being an entrepreneur is that the highs are higher and the lows are lower.

Inside my brain lives a crazy man though, and that guy is going for it.

But,

What if we weren't challenged?
What if we didn't have a support group?
What if we didn't Just Do It?

One of my favourite quotes is from the Classic movie Joe vs The Volcano. Floating on a sailboat in the middle of the South Pacific, and Meg Ryan's character says:

"My father says that almost the whole world is asleep. Everybody you know. Everybody you see. Everybody you talk to. He says that only a few people are awake and they live in a state of constant total amazement."

This game is not for everyone, but for those who dive in, it is an amazing world of constant total amazement.

💪 Find those who believe what you believe and surround yourself with them!
📈 Set Big Hairy Audacious Goals.
🏋‍♂️ Find ways to serve others.
💕 Fall in love with the Journey!

I feel like I've been standing on my head quite a bit lately, but it's getting better.

🏊‍♂️ Almost 20 years ago, I had a colleague share with me, "I'm so far behind, that I think I'm winning". We laughed, we cried, and as Dory recommended, we kept swimming.

🏃‍♂️ Some days you can feel like you're so far behind that you can't even see the next person ahead of you.

It's like that sometimes isn't it?

So today, just for a moment, I'm taking an intentional pause to think back on what it looked like a year ago, and refocus on where I'm going.

🏋‍♂️ This exercise consists of taking a few sheets of paper, and going through two steps.

1️⃣ Write down how many things are different today than what they were a year ago. What have you accomplished? What were your wins? Document how much progress you've made.

2️⃣ Project Forward. What are things going to look like a year from now? What changes are you going to make? What advancements will your businesses achieve?

My word for this year is CALM, and I'm getting closer.

Onward...

Seize The Subtle Differences - That's where success lives!

I'm so excited to be spending some time with the top advisors at Serenia Life Financial today. We are going to be talking about "Looking beyond the fingers" (Which is a bit obscure, I know... just trust me Billy Rogers).

I'm really working through this slide, and it is making me question my own reality. Is it all predestined, or is it that if it's going to be, it's up to me? Or do they both rely on each other?

In our pursuit of success and fulfillment, it’s tempting to seek comfort in the idea that "You are exactly where you need to be right now." This perspective offers a sense of acceptance and completeness, suggesting that our current position is predestined and requires no further action. It can provide solace during tough times, implying that our present circumstances are merely steps on a predetermined path. Yet, this comforting assertion might also lead us into complacency, subtly dissuading us from striving for personal growth and change.

Contrastingly, embracing the philosophy of "Trust the timing" opens us to a more dynamic and proactive approach to life. This mindset acknowledges the imperfections of the present while fostering hope and resilience. It doesn’t just accept the current moment as the final destination but sees it as a part of an ongoing journey that actively involves us. "Trust the timing" doesn’t mean passivity; rather, it calls for a continued engagement with our goals and dreams, even in the face of setbacks and delays. It’s about believing that our efforts and actions are meaningful and will, in time, synchronize with opportunities for success and achievement.

The essence of seizing the subtle differences lies in understanding the profound power that lies between these perspectives. It’s recognizing that while acceptance of the present is vital, it should not deter us from taking action towards the future we envision. It’s about integration—acknowledging where we are with gratitude while remaining engaged and focused on where we’re heading.

Don't simply wait for life to happen. Instead, seize the subtle by actively participating in the shaping of our destinies. Let's trust in the timing of our lives, not as a reason for inaction, but as a catalyst for persistent effort and resilience.

It’s in these subtle shifts that the seeds of monumental success are sown.

It's hard to pick a favourite moment for 2023.

So much growth both personally and professionally, but standing on the stage and delivering my talk 'How to Escape Hero Culture: The Power of Just Being Yourself' at TEDxSurrey, has to be the one thing that stands out the most.

Not for the likes or the views, but for the ability that it has to share a message to people who I would never have previously had the opportunity to impact. Standing on that stage reinforced to me, that anything is possible, and you don't have to try and fit a mold, you just have to be yourself.

I used to think I wanted a Porsche, now I'd have no use for one.

When I started in the Financial Services industry in 2006, I had a talk with one of my amazing managers Marlena Quan. She asked me what it would mean to have known that I made it in the industry.

That version of me answered "When I'm driving my porsche". And there was nothing wrong with that answer at that time. Single, hungry, no kids, no mortgage...

Well things have changed. I'm still very much in the industry and very proud of the work I'm doing to raise others up in their practices, but I no longer see the Porsche in my near future, I have my truck that fits my family and keeps them safe plowing through the snow. For me, the next vehicle will be a van, so that when I choose, I can live like Matt Foley, down by the river.

So how do we get there?

Focus
Drive
Determination

And know the answers to:

🌱 What is your Scared Line?
- Do you know what you stand for?

🏠 Where you are now?
- Do you have precise clarity of where you are in your business development?

🛫 Where you are going?
-Do you have precise clarity on the steps needed to strategically move forward towards your targets?

I spent last weekend making a granular plan for what is to come in the next 2 years. Its been an incredible growth journey, dipping my toes in many ponds, but I needed to go wide, before I could go narrow. Life had done a complete 360 and I needed to see what was all around me, and what I'd been ignoring. (More on that another time...)

Success in this life is not complicated if you know the answer to the 3 questions above.

Now go get it!

What a great day on Friday, working with the Team at Financial Dream Solutions Inc.!

It's a different kind of feeling when you're consulting with a group of outstanding humans who make you part of their inner circle.

Grateful for the opportunity to serve, and to have an impact!

Truly an amazingly talented group of financial advisors!

On Friday we had a wonderful team Financial Dream Solutions Inc. development day in Penticton.

It was an opportunity for our offices (Penticton, Kelowna, Merritt and Osoyoos) to come together and be able to facilitate in-person team building.

We were also grateful to have Derek Strokon from Sacred Line Consulting join us and give us a great talk about “turning time on its side”.
We all got to slow down and enjoy where we were for a moment.
