I am honoured to support this important project with Island Health, working towards enhancing cultural safety in Cowichan. The collaboration with 11 key communities is paving the way for a more inclusive and respectful healthcare environment.

A special shoutout to my mom, Pat Thomas, who is featured in this initiative 🌟 🙌🏽❤️

We recently had the opportunity to contribute our photography to an impactful publication: Decolonizing BC’s Mental Health Act. You can explore this important work at: www.healthjustice.ca/decolonizing-bc-mh-law

Learn more from our new publication about why we need to decolonize BC’s Mental Health Act and how this can be done. www.healthjustice.ca/decolonizing-bc-mh-law

All of the thoughts and ideas in this publication have been built upon expertise and analysis shared with us by experts with direct lived and living experience and Indigenous leaders. The work also builds on a long history of advocacy and organizing related to decolonization, reconciliation, and the health system. Health Justice did not start this work and we have had the privilege of learning from and building upon hard work already done by others who are often unacknowledged.

The photo on the publication cover is by Tricia Thomas Salish Eye Productions and Bizaan Bimose (Tonya Robitaille) provided the background photo in this post.
