New flood mapping studies launched this spring will produce about 260 kilometres of new or updated flood mapping for 10 communities. This is on top of the nearly 600 kilometres of flood mapping that was already underway across the province.

Flood mapping helps communities understand where itโ€™s safe to farm, safe to build and how to best prepare for emergency situations.

View flood maps for any community in the province online through Albertaโ€™s Flood Awareness Map Application.

Good tips for your home from Maxwell Capital Realty, and a great photo of Willow Creek showing the high volume of water.

The rain continues and the surf's up on Willow Creek. Still within the banks but it brings to mind all of you and your personal stream flows coming off of your roof. Did you put the extensions on your downspout? Is anything coming out of your downspout or have leaves and pine needles caused it to overflow along the eavestrough? Is there a negative grade at the basement wall where water is pooling? Keeping water away from your foundation and out of the soffits is good homeownership practice. This rain came slowly and sunk in so adding the extra water from your roof is not a good idea. There has been over 3 inches of rain locally and the mad math on that means for every 1000 sqft of roof x 1 inch of rain you have 519 imperial gallons of water. Now multiply that by 3 inches of this lovely rain...makes you pause, doesn't it? So put on rain gear and take a walk around your house to see where the problem spots are. Preventing water intrusion is a whole lot cheaper than fixing the problems later. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Leave wildlife alone.

Leave wildlife alone.

Injured wildlife has a better chance of survival when tended to by Mother Nature. The best thing is to leave the injured animal alone.

Animals will be stressed from the injury and will be further stressed from attempts to intervene. Stressed animals can become aggressive and cause injury to you and further injury to themselves.

Do not take the animal home to attempt to nurse it to health. In most cases, it is illegal to possess live wildlife.
