You love podcasts? Me too. Here are my take aways (and favorite shows) from being a guest on about 80 shows in the past 12 months.
The best shows are the ones that are truly niched in. They provide depth and actionable advise. They choose their guests wisely and are well prepared. They skip the obvious questions to go straight to where there’s value and learning for the audience.
A LOT of podcasts don’t live long. It’s a hard business and standing out among the thousands and thousands is tough. Ever wondered why the show you initially liked disappeared all of a sudden? Countless reasons…
Among those who live long, there are more than a handful that are not in it to provide value to their audience. They just push out shows every other day, no matter what. For them it’s about visibility and quantity, and a lead gen mechanism. Everything counts in large amounts, right?
Big name does not always mean big learning or entertainment (whatever you are after). I prefer podcasts that grew based on the amazing content they provide (there a few that have great names AND great content).
Some of my favorite shows these days:
It All Works by Jason Wiehler: outstanding depth and detail all things tactical marketing.
The Virtual Campfire by Tony Martignetti: deep conversations exploring business and leadership beyond making profits
After Hours with Felix Oberholzer-Gee: dissecting a wide range of hot topics, entertaining and always insightful, a new season just started!
And then a few classics like Adam Grant’s WorkLife and Roman Mars’s 99% Invisible (his about con law is also fun and very insightful).
And as always, I’m curious to learn: which podcasts do you dig?
