Active listening invites us to slow down enough to notice what may be underneath the words.

When someone says, “I'm fine,” perhaps what they really need is for us to notice that they don't seem fine.

We don't always have to fix what someone is telling us. Sometimes, we simply need to be curious enough to listen without immediately judging, correcting, or preparing our response.🌻

Recently, we had a chance to learn about this new creative solution to support a common phase in the dementia journey.

It's when several phone calls are being made to a family or friend by someone living with symptoms of dementia.

Most times the person with dementia is mainly looking for reassurance. However, this can be taxing on the family or friends.

We’ve had caregivers tell us they feel bad for not being able to answer all the calls they receive, oftentimes between 5 and 20 calls in one day.

We invite you to discover KindredMind, a dedicated vocal partner for families navigating this common dementia care challenge.

How it can help you:

This assistant answers every call using your unique voice or a comforting companion tone.

It proactively connects through gentle check-ins and thoughtful reminders, deeply rooted in their daily habits and the familiar faces of their community.

Always available to respond and reach out even on quiet days, it provides person-centred support tailored specifically to your family member, extending your presence into the moments you are away.

This tool is designed to support the situation, not take place. It manages the communications you might miss, ensuring that when you arrive, you are freed from the burden of unanswered interactions. You can be fully engaged. Offering them the best version of yourself is what they truly need.

If we are all strands in the same web, then our actions matter far beyond the moment in front of us. Every interaction is a tug on the web we share. Some tugs create strain and weaken its threads; others reinforce the web, making it stronger and more resilient.

The way we speak to colleagues, respond to people living with dementia, support families, and navigate difficult moments all shape the environment we create together. The culture we create today becomes part of the legacy we leave behind.❤️

A big thank you to Bahar Babasadegh and her wonderful team at Green Umbrella Senior Care for organizing and hosting us at Chartwell Carlton Retirement Residence in Burnaby last Thursday! 💚

What a fun and engaging afternoon! We had a full house, lots of great conversations, plenty of prizes, and so many enthusiastic participants!

I loved sharing info on How to Maintain a Healthy Brain 🧠✨ The residents were so interactive, curious, and receptive, and it certainly seemed like many left feeling motivated to put some of those tips into action!

And of course, a special shoutout to the team at Green Umbrella Senior Care, whose companions provide wonderful support to older adults, including encouragement around brain health and staying socially and mentally engaged as we age.

Thank you again for having us!! it was such a pleasure spending the afternoon with everyone! 💕

Sometimes it can be tempting to measure success by what has changed immediately. But meaningful change often takes time. It can come through one different approach, one moment of understanding, or one small shift in how we see the person in front of us.

The difficult moments are not necessarily signs that we are getting nowhere. Sometimes, they are where better care begins.💕
