A look at our design process - from initial concepts and layouts to a fully developed Construction Document set and Build Cost Estimate.

This project is the central courtyard of a couple’s future retirement home. As they transition to island life, they wanted a space designed around family, entertaining, and morning coffee. The centrepiece? An outdoor ping-pong tournament arena for hosting kids and grandkids.

Goal: Create a private patio sanctuary by rebuilding and extending the existing fence for greater privacy and reduced road noise.

This client is especially sensitive to sound, so we worked closely together to develop a solution that would provide both privacy and a serene retreat.

The process:
• Dismantle the existing fence
• Install 2x2 framing and cement board within the open cavity between the client’s fence and the neighbouring fence to help reduce sound.
• Rebuild and extend the fence around the patio, creating a more enclosed retreat.
• Waterproof the cement boards with a black damp-proof coating, a product typically used for concrete foundations. The black finish also adds depth and dimension to the layered fence design.
• Finish by staining the cedar for a warm, natural look.

The result is more than just a new fence — it’s a private patio sanctuary, designed to feel enclosed, peaceful, and removed from the road beyond.

Good restoration starts with understanding what went wrong the first time.

♻️ Reuse when possible.
🛠️ Fix the underlying problem.
🪨 Build it right the second time.

The existing stone had lifted due to inadequate full-bed adhesion. Once removed, we uncovered voids beneath the stone where trapped water had contributed to movement through seasonal expansion and contraction.

After years of exposure to the elements and wear over time, the patio was ready for some attention. The client loved the existing stone and wanted to keep the original look, so we carefully restored and reused the material.

We thoroughly cleaned, ground, and scarified both the concrete substrate and the back of each stone to ensure proper adhesion. The stone was then reinstalled using high-strength setting materials and finished with a high-strength grout.

Proper preparation and full-bed installation make all the difference in creating a durable, long-lasting patio. 🪨

Feeling the beginning of a seasonal shift and the excitement of opening two new projects! 🍂

The first is transforming a large slope into a beautiful, usable, family-friendly space with a tiered landscape and boulder retaining wall. The second is turning a small entrance into a serene and tranquil porcelain patio.

Two very different spaces, but both with the goal of creating a stage for gathering, lounging, unwinding and connecting.

Reworked a crumbling multi-tiered retaining wall and garden bed. The last photo shows the original wall - the rest capture the process and final result: a refreshed, sturdy, and more natural flow transformation.
